After four years of quietly collecting and recycling used film canisters, Melbourne-based Ikigai Camera Lab has reached a significant milestone, diverting more than one metric tonne of film plastic from landfill through what it describes as Australia's first film community recycling initiative.

The Williamstown North lab says the achievement is roughly equivalent to keeping 180,000 35mm film containers out of the waste stream.

Aussie photographers have enjoyed the sweet taste of victory at the annual World Food Photography Awards, with local photographers recording the second-highest number of category winners of any country in the competition...what a result! 🇦🇺

The 2026 awards drew close to 9,000 entries from more than 50 countries, celebrating food photography from farm fields and vineyards to restaurant tables and street markets.
