This is what goes in to a typical edit for one of my shoots for anyone interested. The first image is unedited, I slightly underexpose on purpose so as not to lose any detail.

The next is my edit in Lightroom. This is to get the photo close to how it should look in terms of brightness, framing and if I need to blur the background. I then take it in to Photoshop for more extensive edits.

In this one I had to even out the exposure, remove some blemishes from the plate and burger and then remove the skewer as well. Usually I prefer to do things at the actual shoot to save time editing (fingerprints, crumbs etc) but for some things like this it's actually easier doing it in Photoshop as getting them to re-plate the burger would have taken extra time and removing the skewer or rearranging the burger would cause it all to fall apart and they've plated it a set way.

I also added some cheese as you couldn't see it well in the original and you need to be able to see all of the main ingredients. So technically it's a composite but it's common in the industry. I could have asked them to add more cheese but again that would have taken time and risked the burger falling apart, it's just easier doing it afterwards unless you have the time.

A simple shot but quite a lot goes in to it. The edit took about 15 minutes and a whole shoot takes about 4-5 hours.
