Scene Rewind — Sterling point season 1 🎞️
Sterling Point is an eight-episode Prime Video coming-of-age drama created by Megan Park, the writer-director of My Old Ass. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios alongside LuckyChap and Fake Empire, the original series stars Ella Rubin as Annie Jacobson, a high-achieving 17-year-old whose carefully planned life changes when she and her twin brother, Connor, inherit a remote Canadian island from their estranged grandfather.
What begins as a summer escape slowly becomes an excavation of everything Annie was never told about her family. She discovers Ramona, the younger sister she never knew existed, and learns that their mother, Goldie, did not die from cancer as Annie and Connor had always believed. Goldie had a heart condition and died while giving birth to Ramona—just as she was preparing to reunite her children and begin a new life with them at Sterling Point.
That truth gives the dream sequence its ache.
Annie is not remembering a life with her mother. She was too young to have enough memories. Instead, her imagination creates the years they were denied: Goldie watching her grow, remaining beside her through every version of herself, and sharing all the ordinary moments that only become precious once they are impossible.
The scene understands something rarely expressed about grief: sometimes we do not only mourn the person who died. We mourn the relationship that never had time to develop, the conversations that will never happen, and the person we might have become if they had been allowed to stay.
Sterling Point also becomes more than inherited land. It is the home Goldie chose for the future she never reached—the last physical place where her unfinished plans still feel alive. Annie’s refusal to sell it is not simply an inability to let go. After spending her life surrounded by secrets, she is finally choosing somewhere she can know her mother honestly.
That is what makes this scene relatable even beyond losing a parent.
