A snotty clingy kid did not stop us from making the most of these backgrounds, the flowers and the fading afternoon light! Rarely do I make the time to photograph myself or myself with my kid.

It's kind of a trap really.

All my memories of her so far actually involve the two of us, or her with other family or friends that I have witnessed. Yet most of these times are never documented, never celebrated. The trap is 'do I document this or do I live in it?'
The times someone else documents the moment is my favourite.

So these photos represent my own 2026 Mother's day and all the times so far this year that I've wished to capture a memory but chose to just live in it instead. Because we need a bit of both (the memory and the photo) to truly appreciate both.

One of the most special things in my career I won't get over any time soon is being a mum who takes photos of my own kid. And before I packed away the Mother's Day Mini setup, I also got to take photos of my kid with her Nonna. It's a relationship I love capturing but this shoot felt different, deeper & more celebratory.
Mother's Day isn't just limited to mums, it's also for mature mums, aunty mums, adopted mums, friend mums & the mums of mums (aka the grand mums). Only now as a mother myself do I realise that all these mums build a network of love and trust that foster the growth of both child and mother. And that deserves to be documented and celebrated.
