A beautiful night‑sky alignment featuring Venus, a passing Starlink satellite, and several stars across Virgo, Ursa Major, and Cepheus.

⭐ 83 Virginis
A main‑sequence F‑type star in the constellation Virgo, shining at an apparent magnitude of 5.56. It lies roughly 836 light‑years away.

⭐ 85 Virginis
An A‑type main‑sequence star in Virgo with an apparent magnitude of 6.16, located about 6.16 light‑years from Earth. It is known for its stable luminosity and sits near the ecliptic, making it occasionally subject to lunar occultations.

⭐ HD 119720
A catalogued star listed in SIMBAD with an apparent magnitude of 7.66, located about 1,690 light‑years from Earth.

⭐ HD 119590
A star in the constellation Ursa Major, also known as 84 Ursae Majoris. With a magnitude of 7.44 and located about 1,628 light‑years away, it has a strong magnetic field and rapid rotation.

⭐ HD 120151
A G‑type giant star in Cepheus, with an apparent magnitude of 8.00. It lies approximately 1,412 light‑years away and is part of a spectroscopic binary system.

On this day last year, I took this series of shots when Sydney witnessed the Full Lunar Eclipse.
Lunar eclipses aren’t rare, they actually happen two to three times every year but a total lunar eclipse like this is always special.
The next one visible from Australia will be on December 31, 2028.

August full moon (Sturgeon Moon) rising behind the Sydney Opera House.

The Sturgeon Moon gets its name from Indigenous North American tribes, who noticed that large sturgeon were most abundant and easiest to catch during this time of year.

What do you see here? A Pac-Man or a sturgeon fish?

Before I share yesterday’s beautiful full moon rise, here’s today’s early‑morning moonset. I was hoping to align it with the Sydney Tower, but a thick layer of clouds rolled in just moments before the alignment. I had to shift my position, hoping for even a brief glimpse and luckily, I still managed to capture the full moon just before it dipped behind the clouds again.

Yesterday’s sunrise was magical. The sky looked like it was on fire, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge looked incredible under those dramatic clouds.
