Sam Neill was humble, gentle, and grounded.
I was lucky enough to photograph Sam early in my career. Knowing I was about to photograph someone I admired so much, my imposter syndrome was through the roof.
Instead of me putting the client at ease, Sam did that for me. He was so warm and humble that within minutes my nerves disappeared.
After about 15 minutes, Sam smiled and said, “I think we got it.” I panicked a little and asked if we could try one more look. Without hesitation, he agreed.
One of my favourite images from that shoot came from that final look.
Thank you, Sam, for your kindness and generosity. They stayed with me long after the photographs were taken.
Vale, Sam.
