Children bring their whole selves to a session… their energy, their thoughts, their hesitations, their wonder. And every family walks in with a different rhythm. Some kids warm up slowly, some dive straight into play, and some move between the two in their own beautiful way.

Out here at sunset, we simply followed whatever the moment offered. No pressure. No expectations. Just space to explore and breathe and let the connection between these two unfold naturally. This was just one little moment from a full family sunset session - the kind of moment that unfolds quietly while the grown-ups watch on.

What I love most is how, even in the pauses or the unpredictability, there are always pockets of magic - a shared smile, a hand reaching out, a little burst of laughter that tells you everything you need to know about their bond.

It’s a reminder that family photos don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. They just need room for real life. And that’s exactly what I’m here to hold for you… a calm, patient space where your children can be themselves, and where your story can unfold in its own time.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to squeeze in some beautiful family photos before the year slips away, this is it. The lavender at White Rock, just outside Bathurst, is about to burst into full bloom, and I’m opening a small run of sessions right as the sun begins to soften over the farm.

It’s the kind of light that makes everything feel gentle. Kids relax. Parents breathe. And for a few minutes you get to step out of the rush and just be together in a field that looks like it belongs in a storybook.

I’ve been asked more than once, why would anyone want to remember that?
The pain. The intensity. The vulnerability.
Why would you want photos of something so raw?

Here’s what I know: no two births are ever the same. And yet, birth is often misunderstood. It breaks my heart that something so powerful is still spoken about with shame.

But what mama doesn’t see is her own power.
She doesn’t see the strength in her body as it works to bring her baby earthside.
She doesn’t see the fierce determination in her eyes between surges.
She doesn’t see the way her partner looks at her in complete awe.
She doesn’t see that she is extraordinary in the very moment she becomes a mother.
She doesn’t see that she is the centre of it all - the strength, the love, the reason this family exists.
She doesn’t see that what unfolds in those hours will be remembered as one of the most powerful chapters of her life. Her child’s life.

But one day, those same hands will teach him how to throw a ball. How to drive manual. How to hold a hammer. How to be a good man.

And this tiny little boy will never remember just how tiny he once was. But his dad will. And now he’ll have these photos to show him.
