I want to share something personal with you today.

Five years ago, my brother-in-law Mark had a massive heart attack after a minor heart surgery during covid. Just an unlucky, terrifying thing to happen to someone in the prime of his life.

He was placed on life support and in a coma. His heart was so badly damaged that surgeons made the call to fit him with an LVAD - a mechanical heart - as a bridging device, until he received a life-saving heart transplant a couple of months later.

Mark spent six months in hospital. Six months being cared for by an extraordinary team of doctors, nurses, and the transplant team at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney, who quite literally work around the clock saving lives.

We are so lucky to live in a country that offers world-leading medical treatment like this.

I think about how many people in our community have been touched by something similar - a tragedy, or a medical miracle, or both at once. Even though our family was on the receiving end of one of those miracles, I also want to honour every donor family out there.

People who, in the middle of their own devastation, make the most selfless decision imaginable - to give someone else a second chance at life.

St Vincent's Hospital urgently needs to replace their Telemetry Units, the equipment that monitors patients' vital signs. Five units need replacing, at around $2,000 each.

So I've decided to do what I do best, and turn it into something that gives back.

I'm calling it Families with Heart. It's my small way of giving back, and offering you a chance to finally update your family portraits while supporting a great cause.
