A different perspective.
We’re so used to seeing flying foxes hanging upside down, that it’s easy to forget how different they can look when we change our perspective. I guess that can be said for most things in life.
It certainly does take a while and a bit of effort to allow the brain to see this differently

Was a lovely suprise today to see my image of Noiseworks win the monthly comp, especially given today is world photography day. Can't beat the atmosphere of good, live music.

Going through all my GHFF shots and came across this one πŸ¦‡πŸŒ™
DID YOU KNOW? Flying foxes don't take off like birds. Instead, they simply let go of their perch and spread their wings, using gravity to begin flight.
Their feet are specially adapted for hanging upside down, but that also means they're generally unable to become airborne from flat ground.
If you ever see a healthy flying fox on the ground, it will usually climb to a tree or other elevated object before taking off.

. . The ocean calms my soul 🌊
It invites stillness. You wait, you observe, and for a while your attention is on life unfolding in front of you rather than on everything weighing on you.
It engages my senses in a way that helps shifts my nervous system out of a heightened state. The rhythmic sound of waves, the endless horizon, the smell of salt, the cool breeze, and even the negative ions in coastal air all contribute to activating my parasympathetic nervous system.
If you've lived through significant trauma, you'll find your nervous system may spend more time in a state of vigilance. The coast offers me predictable, repetitive sensory input that signals "Right now, you're safe." 🩡

πŸ¦‡.Sometimes, changing hearts begins by simply slowing down long enough to really see them
There is a gentleness to flying foxes that often goes unnoticed. Tucked safely beneath her wing, a tiny pup sleeps while its mother rests. Before long, she'll leave the camp to begin another night of foraging, carrying pollen and seeds across the landscape as she helps Australia's forests thrive.
In the quiet moments, it's easy to forget that these remarkable animals are not only essential pollinators, they're mothers, too.
