. . The ocean calms my soul π
It invites stillness. You wait, you observe, and for a while your attention is on life unfolding in front of you rather than on everything weighing on you.
It engages my senses in a way that helps shifts my nervous system out of a heightened state. The rhythmic sound of waves, the endless horizon, the smell of salt, the cool breeze, and even the negative ions in coastal air all contribute to activating my parasympathetic nervous system.
If you've lived through significant trauma, you'll find your nervous system may spend more time in a state of vigilance. The coast offers me predictable, repetitive sensory input that signals "Right now, you're safe." π©΅
