I’m pleased to share that one of my images received an Honourable Mention in the Colour Print category of the 2026 Ocean Geographic Pictures of the Year photo competition.

But what makes me even happier is seeing so many members of The Underwater Club recognised this year. In total, 11 members of The Underwater Club received awards, category wins, honourable mentions, or special mentions across the competition.

A special congratulations to Maryline Renault, who earned four awards including a category win, and to my friends Capozzola, Vanessa Mignon and Luc Rooman, who were also recognised in the “Colour Prints” category. Renée and Vanessa took 1st and 2nd place, while Luc and I received Honourable Mentions—the four of us “hanging out” together in Colour Prints 😊

Pure chaos… in the best possible way 😅🦭
In autumn, the young fur seals of Montague Island turn the dive site into their personal playground — zooming past the dome port, nibbling fins, and demanding your full attention the entire dive.

You don’t really “watch” the seals here… you get absorbed into the madness 🤿

How good is it when the animal wants to be the star of the show and comes sniffing your camera?

Last week we were swimming with Australian fur seals off Montague island and were very interested in the Nauticam housing especially the float, for the Insta360 X5. I guess they like shiny new toys?

Watching the sunset underwater, from the entrance of Botany Bay in Sydney, Australia.
A fisheye lens is the tool of choice when you want to frame a shark resting south, and those last sunbeams fading west, all in a single shot.
I’ve been enjoying the Canon RF 7–14mm fisheye so far — expect my full review on DivePhotoGuide in a few weeks.

A big thank you to our dive guides "Guts" (Naitheru Tuks) and Tika Papu for not only showing us the stunning reefs of the Vatu-i-Ra passage (Bligh Waters) in Fiji, but also for posing in our photos 🙏

Photographing divers is more difficult than it seems, but that's part of the many wide-angle skills I'll teach a group of 12 photographers when we return to Volivoli Beach next year for a photo workshop (31 July-07 August 2027).
