Bio
Rhiannon has been professionally shooting since her love of photography began in the darkroom during high school. Establishing herself within the live music scene, initially shooting gigs on 35mm film, her endeavours developed from live music, night & urban photography to promotional shoots, portraits, artwork & product photography as well as being the contracted photographer to both the San Hospital & North Gosford Private on the maternity wards. Rhiannon returned to study full time for three years, graduating in 2012 with first place in the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design & Communications, which lead her into the film industry working as a visual effects artist and concept artist on a feature film. With an appreciation of developing processes and film, Rhiannon tends to keep traditional within her work processes and keep her photography as close to 'As shot' as possible. While she will still experiment and occasionally her work will use a combination of film, digital and illustration blending different mediums to create a piece of its own. Rhiannon’s work explores the relationship between nature, the urban landscape and the human condition. She photographs old, historic, abandoned and forgotten locations, documenting the transformation that places take on with the fall of night. While her work is often absent of a person or figure, there is an emotional human undertone as she tries to convey the deep emotional state of nostalgia and the profound melancholy associated with a longing for someone, or something. The locations and shadowy scenes correlate with our emotional selves, mirroring feelings of isolation, emptiness and sorrow through absence and stillness.

I keep finding it challenging to put words to the last couple of weeks; at most times, it was beyond them.

I have a thousand stories and more I want to share, write down and hold onto. It feels like months, if not a whole year, compressed into this short period. Time really is different up here; it's stretched and distorted, and it's not just because of the midnight sun. A day can feel like multiple, and then suddenly, it's Friday, not Tuesday or maybe Wednesday, as you'd thought it was. Adding to that, the incomprehensible perspective between distance and scale makes everything feel wonderfully disorienting.

It has been a truly life-changing experience. A ship filled with the most incredible bunch of absolute weirdos

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to my Australian Cultural Fund project so far! Your support will help me get to and undertake my artist residency at the top of the world: the Arctic Circle!

With just a few days before the EOFY, any donation over $2 is Tax Deductible. If you are considering chucking a few dollars my way, if you do so before the 30th, it will also help reduce your taxable income for this financial year. 😉 a nice little win-win for both of us 🙌

Earlier this year, this book, Unveiling the private practice of Mary Owen, was launched, with an accompanying exhibition.

The project was very special. Working with Mary's daughters, Lucy and Jo, was a pleasure and a privilege. Being entrusted with the task of photographing their mother's life work, and working on the entire book production from start to finish, including the design, layout, and print finishes to give it that extra special touch, to help bring their idea of sharing their mother's remarkable arts practice into a beautiful physical tribute, made this a wonderful project to be part of.

It is so special, in fact, that I am honoured to share with you that The National Gallery has acquired a copy for its collection, which will be part of its research library. So Mary Owen's work will now be shared with even more people than we could have hoped.

A couple of you already know a little bit about this,...

However, I am excited to announce that I will be heading to The Arctic Circle in August to participate in The Arctic Circle Expedition: Art and Science Residency!

This is an incredible opportunity and an honour to be invited to apply and then be selected.
The residency program, established in 2009, is an annual expedition that invites international artists, scientists, educators, and innovators to live and work aboard an Arctic-class expedition ship and collectively explore the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard, just 10 degrees latitude from the North Pole.

Yep, the North Pole! I will be literally on top of the world, creating art with a select group of remarkable artists and scientists!

Late yesterday, the Australian Cultural Fund / Creative Australia approved my fundraising project to assist me with some of the costs associated with making this possible.

You can check out my ACF project here:
https://artists.australianculturalfund.org.au/s/project/a2EMn000005g6iy

Please share, and if you are able to donate, any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Plus, donations over $2 are tax deductible!

I truly appreciate your support in any small way you can and helping this project be seen by more people so that I can reach my goal. x

I finally had some time this afternoon to look back over some of the photos I took during my residency in Thailand. Here are a few small moments from the walking tour we took around Chang Moi, that I wanted to share.

Golden Hour, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Medium format Kodak Portra 400.

I bought the film from a tiny store in Old Town Chiang Mai. The owner has converted the downstairs area of their home to sell a wide range of films (so happy to find 120 film!) and old cameras, with a darkroom where they do hand-developing.

I've been busy creating and working on some fun projects with clients, which I'll post in between work, like this, from my artist residency in Chiang Mai.

However, I'm back in Sydney and have some availability for April and May. If you have a project coming up or one you'd like me to be a part of - hit me up and lets make it happen 😊

Orpheus & Eurydice opens tonight as part of at

I had the pleasure of going behind the scenes to photograph the rehearsals the other day, where the artists of are working alongside the Opera Australia Chorus and singers Cathy-Di Zhang and Christophe Dumaux.

This production brings circus and opera together with awe-inspiring acrobatics and beautiful music.

Video Description: The video starts with a colourful glittering background. An animated graphic sweeps down across the screen from top to bottom in a curve of lime green, yellow, blue and purple as white text in all caps drops down to read, "Open callout. Sydney/Inner West LGBTQIA+ performers, kings, queens, clowns, icons & community peeps! Sign up to be part of a public art installation celebrating our community. Have your portrait taken + free digital copy of your photo. Sessions available 5 - 9th Jan 2024." as the colourful glittering backdrop shimmers in the background.
