One of the most impressive snakes in Australia - the infamous Coastal Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus).
We found this ~2 metre animal basking beside overgrown creek on a cooler morning near Cairns.
A very intelligent species that possesses some of the most toxic venom in the world, and can grow to push three metres in length.
It’s been a few years since these pics and I can’t wait to get back up to FNQ again soon!

A young Bengkulu Cat Snake (Boiga bengkuluensis) predating on a comparatively large Forest Garden Lizard (Calotes emma).
While Boiga venom isn’t very potent for us, it’s certainly toxic for their prey. When I spotted these two, the dragon was already dead and the snake hadn’t even started swallowing it. Pretty decent effort from such a small snake

The recent rain in the Sydney region has got the Giant Burrowing Frogs (Heleioporus australiacus) out in force. A quick spotlight in the heath produced a few of these plus-sized frogs, including a few calling!
