is it possible to avoid the crowds at the acropolis of athens in greece?

if you’re heading there this summer then know some info:
- queues start to build before it opens
- most people have bought online so prepare before going
- entries are timed, aim for 8-9 slot to be there as it opens
- once you get passed the tickets walk very quickly to the parthenon!for/the best chance of seeing it without the crowds
- every person you overtake will be one less person when you get up there
- enjoy the view and then go visit all the other sights
- revisit the partnenon afterwards for a second look if you want
- take a break where needed
- enjoy the sights and the views
- it gets busy very quickly
- there are a lot of stairs so those with mobility issues may struggle
- there is a lift for wheelchair users to the top
- as you queue to get in there will be guides offering bespoke tours
- you can’t take food and drink (except water) once you’re done go visit the acropolis museum down the road and then have a coffee at little tree books and coffee which is super cute

will you be visiting?

this visit took place in shoulder season so summer will be more intense

seriously though…who knew?!

well i guess a lot of you did as corfu, greece is (and has been for a long time) a popular holiday destination - especially for uk visitors. i, however, was completely unaware with just how gorgeous it is there.

the stunning emerald green sea around paleokastritsa was an absolute highlight for me as well as the venetian influenced streets of the old town. it is so unlike the cyclades islands i had visited the week before.

though it is still shoulder season the island is warming up (in both senses) for the up coming european summer rush

have you been to corfu?

three weeks in the land of the gods.

i get it now, i get the hype. six destinations of five islands and one capital city has me eager for more greek adventures

📍 santorini
📍 naxos
📍 milos
📍 sifnos
📍 athens
📍 corfu

the warm up

the understated cyclades island of sifnos is the perfect antidote for some of the regions partying an posing hotspots. it is more associated with hiking, gastronomy, boutique stays, and relaxed village life.

from the frankly dramatic church of the seven martyrs to the beach front taverns, it will take you a while to get over a trip here.

when visiting drop by the coastal town of kastro to explore white painted streets or enjoy the signature local dish of revithada — slow-cooked chickpea stew baked overnight in a ceramic pot

in shoulder season this peaceful greek island is even more captivating

would you visit?
