So while I have been trying to set up a small work space for Carbon printing I decided to try my hand at Salt printing, and probably Cyanotype later, to hopefully help build some skills for when I take on Carbon printing at home.
This is my first attempt at Salt printing and it was pretty much all just guesswork along the way. For a curve I just created a levels adjustment and dragged the middle slider, exposure was a random guess and a quick inspection. Surprisingly it turned out fairly well.
From doing this print I have learnt a number of things.
1 I need to work on my coating method. In the top left the light area I suspect is from uneven coating of the salt solution.
2 My highlights are nice and clean so I have no problems with fogging from stray light in my work space.
3 At the top and bottom of the image I can see where the negative film was is lighter than where no film was so I think I need to give some extra exposure.
4 My print is a bit dark so I need to work on a proper curve for this method.
Overall it was quite a fruitful exercise and has given me a number of points to work on.
