First day of winter at Tathra Wharf ❄️🌕☀️

A pretty special way to welcome winter on the Sapphire Coast.

As the Blue Moon dipped towards the western horizon, the first sunrise of winter was rising in the east. For a few brief moments, Tathra Wharf sat between two worlds…moonlight fading over the bay and a new season beginning with the first light of day.

One season ends, another begins. Nature’s reminder that change doesn’t happen all at once… sometimes it arrives quietly, one sunrise at a time.

Really excited to officially join the Right Whale ID Program🐋…a citizen science program run by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service helping identify and monitor Southern Right Whales along the NSW coastline.

Every Southern Right Whale has unique callosity patterns on its head, almost like a fingerprint. By photographing and cataloguing these markings, researchers can track individual whales over decades and better understand migration, calving behaviour and population recovery.

Southern Right Whales were hunted to near extinction during commercial whaling and, unlike humpback whales, their east coast population has been much slower to recover. Today, fewer than 300 individuals are thought to remain, with only around 70 breeding females. Given females typically produce just one calf every three to five years, every whale really does count.

Pretty incredible to think a single photograph can contribute to real conservation science.

And if anyone happens to spot a Southern Right Whale along the south coast this season, please send me a message 🐋 They’re easy to identify by their lack of a dorsal fin, broad paddle-shaped pectoral fins, and distinctive white nodules (callosities) on their heads. (NB: All drone footage captured in line with NSW regulation distances)

Buzzing to be working with the legends at Bermagooey on World Bee Day 🍯🐝

Spending time photographing these tiny workers gives you a whole new appreciation for the amount of life happening inside the hives. Bees are the ultimate overachievers…working around the clock, building communities, supporting ecosystems and somehow still making liquid gold.

Safe to say I’m pretty hive-minded about this collaboration.

There’s something special about documenting a product so connected to place too. From the native flowers of the Sapphire Coast to the people behind the scenes, every jar carries a little taste of the landscape.

And yes…you could say this shoot was the bees knees.

Sunset light doing what it does best at Tathra Wharf ✨

Shot on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro using the x2.5 zoom lens, which compresses the scene and pulls the towering convective cloud closer to the wharf, creating a far more dramatic feel than a wide-angle aerial.

For a few brief moments, the setting sun ignited the top of the cloud while the coastline below slipped into shadow.

Golden hour on Wagonga Inlet ✨

Along my photography journey, I’ve learned to notice the quiet details…and I was completely captivated by these boatsheds on Wagonga Inlet in Narooma, their colour in the last light and the care in every line.

These little boatsheds catch that light like they were made for it…timber, tin and tide glowing in quiet harmony.

Each shed is unique and full of character, yet together they form a harmonious whole…considered and clearly loved. There’s a real sense of heritage here, a living waterfront history, where each structure carries its own story along the edge of the water. Even the pelicans seem part of it all, cruising the inlet like quiet locals, as much residents as the owners themselves.

I find myself wondering about the creativity of their owners, shaping small sanctuaries while respecting the timber traditions around them.

There’s something deeply human in that… right on the water’s edge.

There’s something special about seeing world-class talent in a place that feels like home. This week I had the chance to see and photograph local music legend Daniel Champagne at the newly opened Headland Theatre at Tathra Hotel…and it was one of those nights that just sticks with you.

The space itself is something else...intimate, beautifully designed, and perched right on the edge of the coast. But what really elevates it is the world-class sound system. Every note rang out with incredible clarity and depth…you could feel the music as much as hear it. The kind of venue where every detail is dialled in, and every seat feels close.

And then Daniel stepped on stage.

No big production, no distractions....just raw talent, intricate guitar work, and a presence that completely draws you in. There was a moment during 'Vincent' where the entire room seemed to hold its breath. The audience sat completely spellbound, no movement, no noise, just quietly locked into the music. You could feel it…one of those rare, shared moments where everything else fades away.

As a photographer, it’s a dream. The light, the mood, the connection…everything just aligns.

Huge credit to the team behind the Headland Theatre. This is something really special for Tathra. Check out the line up at
