After 30 years experience in photography, journalism, communications, customer service, consumer law and broadcasting, Colin Bushell established Bigger Boat Creative Solutions (incorporating Colin Bushell Photography) in 2011. The winner of the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Award in 2015, Colin spends up to three months of the year in search of photographic challenges around the world, working on assi

gnments from as far afield as Hawaii, Italy, England, Arizona, Thailand and Germany. When back in his studio and office in The Gap, Brisbane, Colin delivers striking marketing images, corporate profiles and brand features, while working for a series of Australia-wide magazine titles. He also runs workshops and one-on-ones in photography, creative writing and feature writing; leads photography safaris around Queensland, and is always on the lookout for the next big challenge.

Day 28/29: Home.

A long drive from Ella to Colombo with more than a few near misses! But thanks to our amazing driver/guide, Mauffer Usoof, we made it to the airport on time.

A quick stop for a couple of shots: namely a last view of the Blue Train, and the beautiful Victoria Reservoir.

It's been epic. So many friends made, so many experiences and so much of the world that has opened up to us.

For now, it's time to chill with Pink, and enjoy time with the amazing people close to us.

Thanks for following us along the way and, until the next trip, that's Tanzania, Uganda, Singapore and Sri Lanka done. Box ticked! S

Day 26 and 27: Moving Day and Train Day!

We left our jungle camp and headed inland to Ella. En route some waterfall action before settling I. To our mountain hideaway before taking on the ‘blue train’ run, one of Sri Lanka’s iconic rail journeys, including a special visit to the engine room!

It’s been a huge day, but the curtains are beginning to close on this particular trip!

Day 25: Full day safari, Yala National Park.

13 hours day, exploring this stunning part of the world. The main mission was leopards and elephants. It took a while and a lot of patience, but wow! Got there.

Plus, a hornbill, which would have been on my wish list since I was kid. Crocodiles galore, and so much more!!

Day 24: Yala to Kataragama.

Tuesday started with an early morning message. “Colin, do you want to come and see a python?”

It was then on to Kataragama, where a huge multi-faith festival was underway. I have my own views on religion, but what is undeniable is the passion with which this community embraced their spirituality and shared it with others of different faiths so generously.

That in itself is a lesson to the world!

This was followed by wild elephant shenanigans.

Day 22: Left my favourite accommodation so far (in Marissa), and set off east with our trusty driver.

Had to keep a look out for elephants and peacocks (!) on the road, before arriving at our bush accommodation in the Yala National Park.

Truly at one with nature as animals have right of way through our room! (Not the big ones!)

Haven’t done a safari yet, but already getting acquainted with the locals, and people choreographing how they set light to themselves!!

Day 21: Rest day today, although that didn’t stop us popping along to have a look at two local tourist attractions: Coconut Tree Hill and Parrot Island.

The rest of the day filled with massage, swimming and reading. Off to Yala tomorrow.

Day 20: Galle, Sri Lanka

Took a drive to the old Portuguese/Dutch/British fort.

Lots of history here (and the famous test cricket ground) and a spot for locals to gather and watch the sunset.

This photographer however, waited patiently for 40 minutes to capture the sun rays through the watch tower ‘window’ and was rewarded by some inquisitive jackdaws and beautiful silhouettes.
