A girls weekend away to Port Fairy, years in the making as I added another baby to the mix 🤭 That was the most refreshing weekend away - fellow mums are pure therapy. The cutest AirBNB, the Deep Blue Hot Springs, cold plunges, fires, cocktail jugs, making hilarious videos, cedar hot tub, pool table, Thai, brunches and so many LAUGHS my cheeks hurt.

I’m about to go away on a girls trip and leaving my kids for 2 nights for the first time in YEARS. Going to miss them, but not miss the chaos - anyway I sat with some motherhood thoughts to put on this special gallery. It seems all the cool kids are putting text over their photos these days so thought I better give it a try.

Also, who else is OBSESSED with this song and has watched Off Campus?! 🤭🄹

Sometimes your newborn can have an off day and it happens to be the day of your shoot! This gorgeous girl was a bit unsettled and very alert for her session. Perhaps she was wanting to cluster feed, maybe a sore gassy belly or even just curious to check out this big new world. Whatever the reason, the session can still be calm and the gallery can still be just as special. There’s no stress, we take our time and give your baby the space to have whatever they need. āœØā¤ļø

3 little sneak peeks from the sweetest sunset session the other night 🌾✨

A happy baby, hundreds of birds (pics coming soon), Autumn sunset and the kind of evening that reminds me why I love this job so much.

Life feels very full lately… editing with tired eyes, leaving the milk out, dropping things, juggling mum of 3 life and work life šŸ˜… but getting these previews out to my families within a few days of their session is something I’ll always prioritise because I know how exciting it is to see your memories come to life.

Every session includes a few sneak peeks delivered within days ā™”

I often get asked if I can include the older sibling/s in the newborn session in email enquiries. Take a look at this gallery for the answer. The big sibling or siblings are a HUGE part of the session and always made to feel just as special as the new baby. Come along with realistic expectations, the big bro or sis might not be that keen on the newborn, let alone want to hold/kiss it! This is so normal. I have multiple tricks up my sleeve to get them in the same frame šŸ˜‰. I’m also a primary school teacher and mum to 3 so have lots of experience negotiating with kids šŸ˜‚. Your newborn session might not be as slow and relaxing as it was when you only had the one baby to capture… but there is nothing like the end result and seeing your new, bigger family together in the frame!

Wow did we have fun at this shoot. The weather was unexpectedly wild but the morale was high - so much laughter and play and a little romaaaance. That’s what my family sessions are all about. Not just the photos but the memories of the night! I promise even the Dads have fun. šŸ˜‰ I really am proud of this gallery and thank you to the fam for allowing me to share the images - enjoy!!

You all voted for me to post newborn work next! That poll was last week. Whoops. Gram posting tends to go fortnightly for me, one week I’m killing it at socials the next week - crickets. šŸ™ˆ Here is some sweet little bubba images as well as those very special macros... it’s the tiny details that change so fast!
Guess what - I’ve still got some newborn studio slots available in March so hit me up if you need šŸ¤™šŸ˜˜

I’ve used this camera trick forever and it has evolved…

Insert the child’s interest… ā€œThere’s a fairy/dinosaur/bug that lives inside my camera and it loves smiles, if you give it a great smile you will see it run pastā€!

(For older kids you could ask them if they can see your eye through the lens or has a bug crept inside your lens??)

I love this method for slowing kids down and achieving those magic eye-contact portraits. I’ve had return clients who have told me their kids always remember the dinosaur or fairy that lives inside my camera and they’re excited to see it again!

Save this for your next session! You’re welcome 😘

FAQ ~ when should I book my newborn session?

Answer ~ earlier than you think 😌

I recommend booking your newborn session between 12 to 16 weeks pregnant. Your photoshoot takes place in the first 2 weeks after your baby arrives to ensure they’re still tiny, sleepy and curly! I only take a small number of newborns each month due to my biz and parenting juggles. My December availability is very limited (early December only) and I am annually closed in January (sorry!).

If you’re pregnant and wondering whether now is the right time to book ~ I’m giving you a friendly nudge šŸ˜‰

Feel free to send me a message anytime. Also, if you’re seeing this post and you think you’ve missed the boat ~ please reach out anyway and I’ll see what I can do for you!! 😘

If you’ve ever wondered what an older newborn session can look like… this cute little man was 7 weeks old. We got lucky as Mumma had just managed to clear the hormonal rash they can get before the shoot. I normally recommend newborn sessions are captured within the first 2 weeks of your bub’s life. (This is my cousin’s fam and she opted to wait as she lives far, so combined their Christmas trip with the shoot). The 3 main reasons for the 2 week timeline is: 1. Their legs still curl up like they did in the womb - picture the tiny little bundle look 2. They are way sleepier and milk drunk and 3. Less chance of that 6wk hormonal rash appearing.
That said, look how much sweetness there is to capture at this age too! Chubbier cheeks are a bonus and I always try to get at least one sleepy photo. šŸ¤žšŸ»

šŸŽµMake sure you listen to this whole song/audition video on American Idol - it’s String Cheese by and it’s a really beautiful tear jerker for a Mumma in the trenches of managing all the needs of little kiddies. ā¤ļø
