Floating sargassum rafts are literal lifeboats for juvenile fish in the pelagic. Offering shelter and food in an otherwise vast empty environment. But even on this little patch of sanctuary danger lurks. The cutest danger ever! Little sargassum anglerfish can be found in pretty much every big bit of floating seaweed. But their camo is pretty good! You have to know what you're looking for.

Photo editors are pretty powerful these days. People can make even the worst photo publishable. But in doing so often create false expectations of what animal encounters are actually like.
The best edits you can make are before you take the photo. Be patient, get your light right before you find a subject, and learn how to interact with animals in a way that they are comfortable with your presence.

During last week's weather window some of us abandoned the beautiful, sun-lit coral reefs to explore something a little different. Heading off the reef slope into the murky depths to see what lies beyond the reef.
Well we weren't disappointed. This video is complied from a few dives over 2025 and 2026 on those precious few days the vis was good enough to navigate away from the familiarity of the coral reefs. Enjoy the weird and the wonderful from muck diving around Maggie!
