A little NT wedding story…

The day before the wedding, we headed to Territory Wildlife Park and were having the best time. We were cruising around in one of the buggies, got a little too much momentum happening and… yep. I accidentally went flying forward and absolutely scraped the s**t out of both my knees.

Typical Sally.

it looked horrendous. And honestly, everything I was doing to try and make them better was probably just making them worse.

With a wedding the next day, I knew I couldn’t exactly rock up with my knees looking like that, so Bunt was sent off to the chemist to find me some really good bandages which he did, because thank God for Bunt.

The next morning I had my tights on, which I NEVER wear to weddings, purely because I didn’t want anyone seeing my poor knees.

Then my sister arrived to help me for the day, saw my knees and basically said, “You cannot work like that.” 😂

So off she went and bought me a brand new dress.

And honestly, once I had that dress on and the tights were off, I felt SO much better.

It made me think about all the little things that happen before and during wedding days that nobody ever sees. Things go wrong, life happens, bodies get scraped, plans change… and somehow, you just have to keep going.

As wedding photographers, we can’t let much get in the way. Our couples have been waiting for this day, and our job is to show up, be there and get it done.

And sometimes that means doing it with two very ugly knees.

I’m just so grateful for the little lifesavers I have around me especially my sister, who saw the problem, fixed it and got me feeling like myself again.

I feel like lately everything with Willa is a “last before big school.”

Her last year of preschool, her last little milestones, all these things that feel so small at the time but somehow feel like the end of an era for us.

I think I notice them more because I know we’re moving into a whole new chapter, and I’m not quite sure I’m ready for it.

Today I got to photograph Willa’s last preschool photo. I was lucky enough to photograph Roy’s last preschool photo at the same preschool too, so getting to do the same for Willa feels pretty special.

And then this morning I was in her room thinking, Oh, I’ll just change your outfit.

She looked at me and said, “Mum, I like my outfit.”

And I just thought… you know what? If you like your outfit, wear the outfit you like.

It doesn’t matter.

She was happy. She liked what she was wearing. I didn’t need to change a thing.

And maybe that’s a little part of growing up too. Letting go of some of the things I would normally choose for her and giving her the space to choose for herself.

I really believe you meet people for certain reasons and
I truly feel that way about Rosie and Hunter.

I met Rosie at one of her good friend’s weddings that I photographed, and we just clicked instantly. I feel like we’re so similar in so many ways, and I’ve just loved getting to know her.

Then I got to be there to photograph her and Hunter’s wedding day, and honestly, I just felt so grateful.

They could not have given me enough gratitude for being there and capturing their day, and those little things always go such a long way with me.

I’ll never forget Rosie telling me that I was the perfect fit for her day. A comment like that honestly means more to me than she’ll ever know. I was so grateful to be there, to witness their love and spend the day with their beautiful family. It was just such a special day, and I’m so thankful I got to be a little part of it.

A whole year since these two had the sweetest little ceremony, surrounded by their closest family and friends, with the most beautiful backdrop.

It was such a beautiful day and I still love looking back at these photos. So much love, happy tears and plenty of laughs.

Happy first anniversary you two ❤️

There’s just something so special about these little moments between a mum and her boy. The cuddles, the little looks, the way he looks at his mumma.

I just love seeing extended families come together

I know it’s not always an easy thing to organise. Getting everyone’s schedules to line up, getting everyone there and actually making the time for it can be a bit of a mission.

So when I get to spend an hour with a family like the Humphries, I really do love it. They just laughed the whole time, there was so much love and it was just really wholesome.

Such a pleasure to spend that hour with them and capture everyone together.
