Still one of my favourite images ever. I remember this moment like it was just now. Gentle breeze and wild hair. Forever ahead. Kind and warm people doing life together. Tears of joy. And me in the middle of it all. It’s hard to explain the journey in words. I guess that’s what cameras are for.

Nobody posts cake cutting shots. That needs to change. Cutting the cake is only as boring as you make it. Some couples have a mini-party doing it, mostly because they have no idea why they’re cutting it in the first place, so it becomes funny as hell! I can honestly say I have no idea why anyone would cut a cake together and I’ve been to literally hundreds of these things 🤔 I say keep cutting cakes, it’s a hoot…

Thirty seconds before Sally walked down the aisle, she stood in the foyer of her parents house, looking out across the front yard through the magnificent window transported from Scotland to Barjarg, Country Victoria. It sent the light inside after it diffused and tamed it a little. And I remember thinking how stunning and at peace she looked. How everything was as it should have been. And so I waited for her to look up and take a deep breath. I pressed the shutter. Not only had we made a beautiful photo, we spent a calm minute together, quietly waiting for what was next. While outside, a hundred people bustled with raw energy and expectations.

And so I ask, do you see? It’s not just a photo. It’s a part of a story. The story of the day. The story of a moment in a life. One that will gain value as the years rack up. One that might find new meaning and context as time has its way.

That’s the kind of calm yet committed investment I would want from someone shooting my wedding.

I don’t just take wedding photos. I tell wedding stories. There’s a big difference. For those who want to remember it all the way it happened and feel it all the way it felt, the distinction really matters.

I loved this day. The people. The place. The whole experience of being welcomed by strangers and treated like family is unbeatable. I won’t forget it.

Maddie and Daniel are up on my blog. The link is in my profile.

When I first met Maddie in person for a coffee and she described her hopes for her big day, I was all-in right from the start. Every part of her day felt right up my alley. The family farm just outside Grongy where she grew up was the canvas for a big country party full...

Ok let’s deal with the whole ‘dark’ thing. Through a wedding day, I see many types of light. Many types of scenes and the moods attached to them. Some bright and some dark. And as a wedding photographer, I choose to embrace both. Because they’re both beautiful and they’re both naturally all over the place. I am not a fan of forcing light into every situation because life is not like that at all. And more than anything I want to explore and embrace all the feels of life in my work. Yes, this is a happy day, but no story is light without dark. No life is ups without downs. Most importantly, I feed off the spaces I’m in. I embrace whatever they naturally give me. And let’s face it, if I started throwing bright flashes of light around this beautiful chapel while everyone is deep in this special moment, Kimmy would have punched me in the head. No seriously, she would have. And I would have deserved it.
