Last weekend (10th to 12th October 2025) saw Graeme & I volunteer again for another 4WD event but this time with our 4WD Club at the Springs 4x4 Park, hosted by Motor Culture Events.
Although it had been 11 years since we'd last driven the tracks of the Springs, it didn't take us very long to familiarise ourselves, noticing the improvements of the park that Lucas and his Team Bree had done. Graeme & I felt right at home marshalling the event, as we used to do it quite regularly for events run by the previous owners.
There were 5 events for the weekend, starting Friday afternoon with the Flex Test at the Play Pen, located at the front of the property. Vehicles were reversed with one wheel up a ram, which was securely fixed in the ground and against a large tree. Each vehicle was measured from the top of the ramp to the center of the wheel rim.
Khana Cross was more of a speed and precision event on the Gym Khana Track. Navigating your way through the bush, in some places quite tight corners and jump ups at the fastest speed you were prepared to go.
Hill Drags consisted of 2, 4x4 vehicles racing each other up a very steep hill and stop very quickly at the finish. The winner of each race progressed to the next race, till there was only one winner. To say it was a dusty event is an understatement.
Mud Run, this was a very popular spectators' event with people standing on their car roofs to get the best vantage spot to see the vehicles drive through the long muddy track. Only 3 vehicles and their drivers were game enough to give this a go, but with the help of the sn**ch strap to pull them out of the bog, they continued to the end, providing everyone with some exciting video footage. There was also a human mud race, with 3 energetic and confident drivers stripped down to their shorts and ran bare foot through the mud, with a huge belly flop at the end. Now that was funny to watch.
Beer O'Clock Hill. This is a controlled event by the park owner Lucas. To conquer this hill is an achievement in itself and the driver deserves all the bragging rights. It's steep, very steep, with one section near the top at 50 degrees making it very difficult for the vehicle to jump over the 1.5m ledge. Many have made it, many haven't either. I know, I've tried several times over the years.
There was plenty of eat with food and coffee vendors, entertainment each night and give aways. All in all, it was a fun weekend, meeting some wonderful people, and getting some great photos.
Below are some of the photos I took from the weekend
