The drives home from my sessions are always a time of reflection for me.

I replay little moments in my head.

And I’m always itching to get back into the studio, load the images and relive them all over again.

Last night was one of those drives.

I thought about how much love that first little grandchild can bring into a family.

How one tiny person can completely change your world.

How infectious the smiles of an almost two-year-old can be.
And how incredibly loved one little boy can be by so many people.

Little Lachie was such a sweet little guy.

And I had the best time capturing all of it. 🤍

You don’t have to photograph your baby in those first few weeks to capture their babyhood.

Some families have longer hospital stays or complications. Some forget to book. Others follow traditions of staying home in those early weeks.

And some simply want a little time to find their feet first.

So what’s the best age for newborn photos?

Honestly? The age that works for you.

The younger they are, the sleepier + curlier they tend to be.

The older they are, the chubbier + more alert they become.

Both are beautiful. Just different.

From a mum with older kids who doesn’t have nearly enough photos of herself with them — make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did.

The newborn bubble is both beautiful and hazy. You’re so completely in it, and somehow, before you know it, you’re out the other side.

And I’d love to help you hold onto a little piece of it forever.

Photos you can show her when she’s older and say, look how tiny you were.

Photos that remind you how she fit against your chest. How completely obsessed you were with this tiny new person.

And photos that, years from now, might just be the closest thing you have to going back.

One day old 🤍

I spent a little time inside their hospital room. The room was quiet. And it felt both intimate and nostalgic.

The pink striped hospital blanket. The plastic bassinet. The sounds of the hospital around them. Nurses quietly coming and going.

There’s something about those first days that feels almost separate from the rest of your life.

Learning each other. Soaking up sleepy cuddles. Discovering an all-consuming love you never knew existed. Realising everything outside your four walls suddenly feels just a little less important than before.
