🔥 QantasLink’s New-Gen A220 Heads For Launceston ✈️👀

On the 14th of June, TheGroundCrew captured QantasLink Airbus A220-300 (VH-X4J) departing Sydney Airport from Runway 16R, operating as callsign “Q-Link 1535” bound for Launceston.

The A220 has quickly become one of the standout aircraft in the QantasLink fleet, bringing a fresh look, modern engines, and a very different profile compared with the regional jets and turboprops many are used to seeing.

A clean Sydney departure for one of QantasLink’s newest generation aircraft.

🌧️ Singapore A380 Through The Spray — Wet Arrival Into Sydney ✈️👀

Yesterday morning on the 14th of June, TheGroundCrew captured Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 (9V-SKZ) operating as callsign “Singapore 231”, touching down at Sydney Airport after arriving from Singapore Changi.

Arriving onto Runway 34L in wet conditions, the A380 made quite the entrance — runway spray, gloomy skies, and that unmistakable superjumbo presence rolling into Sydney.

Even in the rain, there is still something special about seeing a Singapore Airlines A380 arrive on Australian soil.

🔥 Speedbird Into The Storm — British Airways Boeing 787-9 Departure From Sydney ✈️👀

This afternoon on the 14th of June, TheGroundCrew captured British Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (G-ZBKH) departing Sydney Airport as callsign “Speedbird 16”, lifting away from Runway 16R into a wall of inbound stormy weather.

Bound first for Singapore Changi before continuing on to London Heathrow, the Dreamliner climbed out under golden storm light with one of those backdrops that makes the whole scene feel bigger — dark skies, soft light, and that unmistakable long-haul departure energy.

A beautiful Sydney send-off for one of the world’s most iconic airline callsigns.

🔥 Trojan 33 Brings The Super Hercules Into Williamtown ✈️👀

This afternoon, on the 13th of June, TheGroundCrew captured a Royal Australian Air Force Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Super Hercules, registered A97-468, touching down at RAAF Base Williamtown on Runway 30.

Operating under the callsign “Trojan 33,” the Super Hercules arrived into Williamtown from RAAF Base Tindal, bringing one of the RAAF’s most recognisable heavy-lift workhorses into Newcastle’s backyard.

The C-130J always has a presence of its own — four turboprops, that unmistakable Hercules profile, and a long-running role supporting Australian Defence Force operations across transport, logistics, personnel movement and more.

Among the fast jets and regular airline traffic around Williamtown, movements like this always stand out.

A strong Runway 30 arrival, a classic RAAF platform, and another great catch at Williamtown.

Do you enjoy seeing the heavier RAAF aircraft moving through Newcastle? 👀

🔥 Slick Departures Out Of Sydney — With Widebodies and A New Qantas A321XLR In The Mix ✈️👀

Recently, TheGroundCrew captured a small mix of departures from Sydney Airport off Runway 16R, with several international heavies lifting out of Sydney and banking away, plus one very interesting domestic movement thrown into the mix.

Across the set were international departures from Hong Kong Airlines, Jetstar, Vietnam Airlines, and two China Eastern Airlines widebodies, each climbing out into the Sydney sky with that classic 16R departure profile.

Also making the collection was one of the new Qantas Airbus A321XLR aircraft, lifting off and banking away shortly after departure — a fresh addition to the Qantas fleet and a very clean-looking aircraft to see in action.

From widebodies heading offshore to one of Qantas’ newest narrowbodies joining the flow, this was a great little snapshot of the variety Sydney can throw at you in a short window.

International traffic, new fleet additions, and those classic Sydney banking departures.

Which aircraft would you most want to catch departing out of Sydney? 👀

🌅 Chasing Golden Hour Through The Archives ✈️👀

There is something special about aviation photography when the sun starts to drop.

Looking back through TheGroundCrew archives, some of our favourite moments have come from those final pockets of light — airline arrivals rolling through Newcastle, RAAF movements at Williamtown, silhouettes, reflections, glowing skies and aircraft that suddenly look completely different once the sunset hits.

Whether it is a regular passenger service, a business jet, or an F-35A returning through the last light of the day, golden hour has a way of turning even familiar movements into something memorable.

That is the fun of aviation photography — the aircraft might be the subject, but the light can completely change the story.

Here’s a look back at a few sunset and late-afternoon favourites from the archives while we wait for the next golden-hour catch.

Which one stands out most to you? 👀

👀 Morning Touchdown - Jetstar 472 Arrives Into Newcastle From Melbourne ✈️

On the 5th of June, TheGroundCrew captured “Jetstar 472,” operated by Jetstar Airbus A320 (VH-VFX), touching down at Newcastle Airport on Runway 30 after the morning service up from Melbourne Tullamarine.

While the A320 is a familiar part of Newcastle’s airline movements, there is always something good about catching the regular morning traffic rolling into the Hunter — especially when the light, timing and arrival all come together.

Melbourne to Newcastle remains one of the key links in the local passenger network, with Jetstar continuing to be a regular sight through Newcastle Airport.

A routine service, a clean Runway 30 arrival, and another piece of the daily rhythm at Newcastle.

Do you enjoy seeing the regular airline movements through Newcastle, or are the rare visitors still the main catch? 👀
