Dean Maguire Gallery

Dean Maguire Gallery An Australian fine art photographer with a love for B&W and lust for COLOUR. My first camera purchase was in 2008 at the age of 18.

Although I would have to say photography peaked my interest in 2004 when I was on a Baseball trip in Hawaii. When I wasn't playing I would grab my Dads regular run of the mill Kodak film point and shoot camera and go nuts (granted I had no idea what I was doing I just had fun and went with it). Since then my pasion for all things photography keeps on growing with no signs of slowing down. As you m

ay have noticed already I capture my images outside in both Colour and Black and White. I love all things photography although there is something about Black and White images that stand out to me. I'm not sure if it is the fact you have to concentrate on the picture more or that we see colour every day of our lives that looking at and capturing images this way takes me away from normality. This is why I'd have to say Black and White Photography is my passion and will be the style I would love to be known for and master in years to come

OUTREACH.

Welcome to 2025.

Upon reflecting on not just 2024 but 2023 I came to the realisation that I was heading in the wrong direction both in photography and in the real world.

This image is a reminder as it was captured at one of my favourite beaches on the Central coast during this period of my life.

On reflection I found myself helping a business partner in life and art rather than looking inwards and seeing what this was doing to my own wellbeing, family and my photography.

It has been hard to regather myself (still a ways to go) although with the right people behind me in the likes of my wife Candice, mates Andrew Cooney Adam Resch Glenn Mckimmin Gallery Jordan Wheatley Tim Wrate Kaid Burgess Photography Matt Mortimer and Sam Ritchie, shows there is a strong community with a few willing to tear it down for self worth and gain.

Let 2025 be the year we are artist and people look inward and forget all the noise around us.

Id like to apologise in advance as my work and stories will show up more and more as the year progresses.

For the non photographer and artist, please remember that our art and images hold a deeper meaning than at first glance and our job is to help you see through our eye.

HEAD WAY

The Illawarra coast line is home to fascinating rock formations stunning beaches and this incredible sector known as as Seacliff bridge.

Not the original road, this bridge was built to prevent falling rocks potentially landing on cars driving past below.

The simplistic of the design and how the bridge blends in with the landscape it truly something to marvel.

MORNING RETREAT

A calming, still and overcast morning at Woonona on the Illawarra coast was exactly what the doctor ordered. A morning to escape the fast paced world we live in.

I had been to this location a could have time in the past quickly finding out the conditions need to capture the desired shot.

There is something about the architecture combined with the pool in the foreground that kept calling me back. Maybe it’s the straight lines and colour of the building mixed with the water aspect. What ever it was it’s just one more location that keeps my interest in the Illawarra strong, a diverse stretch of Australian coastline with much to see and do.

LIGHT THE WAY

What was meant to be a quick shoot before work whilst in Canberra turned into a 5 year mission.

It may be a shock how long the process was to capture this image although needing specific conditions to go along either my vision for the National Carillon in a small window proved to be a challenge.

You could say the image before was the light at the end of the tunnel, or the pathway. A message that patience and persistence can pay off with the right planning and motivation.

SHELF LIFE

It had been quite some time since I last photographed the Turimetta / North Narrabeen rock shelf. Not only did I have a great time rekindling that relationship, with many memories flooding back. To have join made the morning that much better.

Before firing up photoshop I thought it be cool to compare my very first images to now and see the difference.

Apart from the long exposure aspect a lot had change. Composition, subject choice, exposure selection to name a few.

It is humbling to look back and see how far you have come and how much you still have to learn.

FILTERED

An image 15 years in the making.

From the humble first click of a camera to an image driven by passion, obsession, and awareness.

We all have that one location that is close to our hearts. North Narrabeen pool and headland for me is that place.

B E L O N G I N G

Have you visited small costal town in Australia and noticed or come across old sheds, structures, shacks that built many years ago but fit in perfectly with the locations and aesthetic of the town, and simple belong?

Over the past few years I’ve been capturing such structures located in Kiama and the Illawarra areas as they definitely catch my eye and intrigue me to the point where a story starts to manifest in my mind while working nicely as a minimalist piece.

INSPIRE

It had been quite some time since my last shoot.
Not only was this a great opportunity to continue capturing and creating images for the DEEP END project but it was nice to be out on the Illawarra coast.

Bulli ocean pool has some awesome lines, lays east west which looks over the once an. What better location to photograph after some time away from the art.
