🍺 Some outback pubs are worth changing your itinerary for.

The Daly Waters Hotel is definitely one of them.

Turn off the Stuart Highway and you enter a world of bras hanging from the walls, banknotes and memorabilia covering almost every available space, live music, happy hour and the legendary Beef and Barra Feast.

On my visit, the campground started filling from mid-afternoon, the b**r garden came alive and Cameron Mason had the crowd singing along well into the evening.

Then there’s Tim’s Junkyard across the road, the pub’s fascinating history and a collection of traveller memorabilia that just keeps growing.

It’s quirky, a little crazy and unmistakably Territory.

🍺 There’s something special about a proper outback pub.

After a few days exploring Boodjamulla National Park, I rolled into Camooweal looking for a cold drink, a decent feed and somewhere to spend the night.

What I found at the Post Office Hotel was classic cattle country.

There was a campdraft in town, Akubras lined the bar, steaks were disappearing from plates, and road trains rumbled past the verandah on the Barkly Highway.

Just 12km from the NT border, this is more than somewhere to stop for fuel, food and a bed. It’s one of those outback pubs that becomes part of the journey.

I recently spent some time with 4xoverland | Andrew St Pierre White and Heiner Klarmann exploring the stunning woodlands region near Southern Cross in Western Australia. The bush camping was excellent, the company brilliant and my mind was blown by the Hiace 4x4 conversion and build, especially the Egon Australia 48 volt electrical package. You’ll be able to read more about this game changing build in the near future on the RV Daily website. Thanks guys for making this trip so memorable and let me know when you’re heading to Victoria so I can show you my backyard.

Bladensburg National Park is one of those places that keeps drawing me back.

I’ve visited a few times over the years, but after the big rains this trip was something completely different. Green Mitchell grass stretched across the plains, wildlife was everywhere, and a landscape I thought I knew had changed yet again.

But Bladensburg is about much more than the 4WD tracks and spectacular outback scenery. There’s pastoral history, the confronting story of Skull Hole, lonely graves, old station buildings and characters like Scrammy Jack whose stories still linger in this country.

My latest article for 4X4 Australia explores why this national park, just outside Winton, remains one of my favourite places in outback Queensland.

From Supercars champion to resort developer, Rick Kelly has taken on one of his biggest challenges yet.

Trentham Waters Resort, on the Murray River near Mildura, is already an impressive place to stay, with spacious caravan sites, ensuite sites, modern villas, a spectacular pool, waterslides, KOKOMO restaurant and plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

Some places leave you speechless. Mungo is one of them.

I know I’ve shared plenty of photos from Pender Bay Escape, but every now and then you stumble across a place that completely blows you away.

Two nights was never going to be enough. A week might do it, but two weeks would be even better.

Why? Because this isn’t a place where you race from one attraction to the next. It’s a place to slow down, switch off, leave the stress behind and simply enjoy where you are. Whether it’s watching the colours change over the bay, wandering the beach or doing absolutely nothing, Pender Bay Escape has a way of making you forget what day it is.

Some places are worth ticking off the list. Others make you want to come back before you’ve even left. This is definitely one of those places.
