Everyone wants golden hour. And honestly — yes. It’s beautiful. That warm, directional light does something to a photograph that’s hard to replicate.
But here’s what a lot of couples don’t realise: golden hour is only 15 to 20 minutes. If your timeline runs late, it’s gone. Just like that.
The photographers who consistently deliver great images aren’t just chasing the perfect light — they know how to work with whatever the day gives them. Harsh midday sun, patchy afternoon cloud, a completely overcast sky. All of it is workable in the right hands.
Personally? I love a heavy overcast day. The light is soft and even. No harsh shadows. No squinting. No sunnies pushed up on foreheads mid-portrait. Just clean, flattering light that makes the job easier and the images better.
The perfect light isn’t always what Instagram tells you it is. What matters far more is working with a photographer who can read the day, manage the timeline, and make something beautiful out of whatever they’re given.
