Somewhere along the way, we decided family photos needed to be an event.

Everyone dressed in coordinating outfits.
Everyone looking at the camera.
Everyone behaving themselves.
A pretty location.
A perfectly golden sunset.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that if it's your thing.

But what if it doesn't have to be?

What if your family photos could look like your family?

The kids still in their pyjamas at 10am.
Flour on the kitchen bench.
Bare feet in the backyard.
Muddy knees.
A toddler refusing to leave the chickens alone.
The Lego that seems to have permanently taken over the living room.

Not staged.
Not polished.
Not trying to recreate somebody else's version of family life.

Just yours.

Because I don't think you'll look back on these years and wish you'd looked more Pinterest-worthy.

I think you'll want to remember what your life actually looked like.

And that's the kind of family photography I want to capture.

You don't need to stage a beautiful childhood to take meaningful photos of it.

You just have to let me into the one you're already creating ❤️

I have photographed some pretty beautiful places around the Central West.

Wyangala Dam
Cowra Japanese Gardens
Abercrombie House
Wilga Station
Bathurst Begonia House and Fernery

And I love them. I really do.

But if you asked me where my favourite sessions happen, my answer probably wouldn't be any of them.

It would be your home.
Your backyard.
Your family property.
The paddock your kids have grown up running through.
The kitchen where you make pancakes on Sunday mornings.

Because when you're choosing a location for your session, I don't think you need to find the prettiest place.

I'd much rather find the place that means something to you.

A beautiful location can make beautiful photos.

But a familiar one can tell your story.

And years from now, I think you'll care less about whether the light was perfect and more about seeing the home you brought your babies home to. The tree they used to climb. The paddock they spent their childhood running through.

Those little pieces of life become part of the story too.

So yes, if you'd love a gorgeous location, I have plenty of ideas.

But if you're wondering whether your home is "special enough"... It probably is.

In fact, it might be my favourite place to photograph you ❤️

Adam & Hayley from last spring 🌸

Before the wedding day, the celebrations, the beginning of a new chapter.

There was this season.

The excitement, the anticipation, the joy of knowing this is my person.

These two were an absolute joy to photograph. Their laughter was effortless, their love was obvious, and it was such a privilege to witness this little piece of their story.

Engagement sessions aren't just about documenting a ring or a proposal story.

They're about remembering who you were before everything changed.

The way you looked at each other.

The way you laughed together.

All the little moments that belonged only to the two of you in this season of life.

Life has had me reaching for old photos more than usual lately.

Not the perfectly posed ones.

The ordinary ones.

The ones where nobody was looking at the camera. The blurry ones. The ones that hold the tiny details you'd never think to remember until they're all you have left to revisit.

It's made me realise something.

We spend so much time taking photos for now, to share them, print them, frame them, post them.

But I don't think that's really what they're for.

I think they're for years from now, when life has quietly or suddenly changed.

When you're trying to remember the sound of a laugh, the gentleness of an old pet, the way your children fit so perfectly in your arms, or what home looked like before everything was different.

Photos can't stop time.

But they do let us return to it, even if only for a moment.

They're not just beautiful images.

They're memory keepers ❤️

Little pieces of ordinary life, carefully preserved until one day they're all that's left to hold onto.

And maybe that's the real reason I love this work so much.

One year ago today, I made the decision to stop sharing children's faces online.

It wasn't a business strategy or a marketing move. It was simply something that felt deeply right.

A year later, I can honestly say I haven't regretted it for a single moment. The peace it has brought me is something I can't really put into words.

Over the last twelve months, I've been reminded that social media was never meant to hold the full heart of my work anyway.

What you see here will always be just a small glimpse. The real stories, the beautiful little expressions, the moments that matter most... they live exactly where they belong, safely in the hands of the families who trusted me to capture them.

Georgie Woods | Central West NSW Photographer has grown alongside my family for almost three years now.

In that time, I've learnt so much, not only about photography, but about the kind of business I want to build.

I've refined my skills, invested in my craft, and slowly shaped an experience that feels deeply aligned with my values. One that celebrates honest connection over perfection and preserves the beautifully ordinary moments that matter most.

With that growth comes a few gentle changes.

From August 31st, my packages and pricing will be evolving to better reflect the experience I now offer.

Some of my favourite images will never be shared here.

Not because they aren't beautiful. But because they were never mine to share.

Some galleries stay private because my clients have asked them to. Others remain unseen because I choose to protect the sacredness of childhood and not share little faces in this online space.

Trust is part of the experience I hope every family and couple feels when they step in front of my camera.

This space will always be a glimpse into my work.

The real magic lives in the galleries that belong only to the people in them.

And I think that's exactly how it should be ❤️

Not just how it looked.
How it felt.

Calm.
Unhurried.
Comfortable enough to simply be yourselves.

These are the words that matter most to me after a session.

Not perfectly posed moments, but the feeling people leave with.

You know those portraits?

The ones that are perfectly posed, with everyone smiling straight into the camera?

Sometimes photographers call them “the grandparent shot”. The one that ends up on Nanna’s fridge because everyone’s looking and smiling.

They’re not my favourite.

A lot of the time, smiles feel forced. The eye contact and body language are a little awkward.

It can all feel a bit too “perfect” for me.

In my photography, I lean into the imperfect moments.

Because when the focus shifts from poses to connection, people soften.

They relax.

They become themselves.

And that’s where the magic happens.

The images might not always be “perfect”,
but they’re real, and that will always be my priority.
