The difference between photos of your event and Professional Event Photography?

It’s the difference between -
a) “who was there and what they had for lunch” and,
b) “who was there, why they were there and what did they do”

On Friday, the Maclean District Business Chamber hosted an event to discuss the challenges facing the region, its people and economy - and to work out strategies to address these challenges. The Chamber had gone to considerable effort and with the support of Judo Bank, arranged for Warren Hogan (the Founder and Managing Director of EQ Economics) to do a Q&A - in short, this deserved more than iPhone photos.

The bonus for the Chamber is that they have professional quality images of the event as well as Evergreen social media content. The event was shot on Friday, rush images delivered Saturday morning, complete stills gallery delivered by Monday lunch.

It doesn't matter whether you're a pro or an amateur, it doesn't matter whether you're using your phone or pro level gear - it's more about having a place with likeminded people minus the peanut gallery of larger groups.

I’ve been active in some beginner photography groups answering questions and giving some advice and found the level of arrogance, ignorance and toxicity extremely disappointing.

For this reason I thought I’d set up a small, informal group for photographers of any level and genre to exchange ideas, tips, tricks and just general conversation.

Just checking FB before leaving for a shoot on the Gold Coast and saw this post from Toll Helicopters who perform emergency aeromedical for the Ambulance Service.
Prior to being a paramedic I remember the enormous sense of relief that the sound of the sirens gave me knowing that “the ambos will sort this”.
When I was a paramedic sirens were just f**king annoying and gave me a headache BUT that sense of relief became the sound of an approaching helicopter.
I cant put a figure on how many times we called for helicopters (it was a lot) but I can honestly tell you that the crews were always exceptionally and consistently professional.
So, hats off to these legends, much respect to you.

I had some feedback that Mondays Reel with 20 images in 6 seconds was a bit fast and that being able to look at individual shots would be a good thing - so here it is.

These images have been converted to black and white because colour affects the mood and feel of images and it is one more thing to process, with black and white you are kinda left with the essence of the subject.

It would be remiss of me not to mention that it would be impossible to take shots like these without the incredible performers from Naidu Theatre Company and WPAS - Woolgoolga Performing Arts Studio.

I had the opportunity to shoot for and Naidu Theatre Company for their “Bad Romance” performance.

Shooting in these venues pushes the camera to its limits because of the lighting and pace of the performance but the results are all the more satisfying for it.

The colour version of these photos are solid but good but I find that black and white strips away the distractions and lets the viewer better focus on the dancers and their movements.

New camera day!

I’m pretty rapt to be getting one of the new Canon R6V video cameras, it’s going to open up some options for work I have coming up which I’m really looking forward to.
