Japanese Cemetery Singapore

Started in the late 1800's by Tagajiro Futaki, a sailor who struck it rich as a brothel owner, Singapore's Japanese Cemetery is more like a green, quiet and beautifully-manicured history book that you can stroll through.

With over 900 graves, it walks us through the diverse contributions of Japanese seamen, soldiers, working girls and entrepreneurs whose paths ended here in Syonan.

Probably the most controversial memorial is the grave of Field Marshall Count Terauchi, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Japanese Army in SE Asia during WWII.

Tarahumara Cemetery, Barranca de Cobre, Mexico.
The Tarahumara tribe's ancestral homeland is in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, primarily centered in the Copper Canyon.

The region is remote with few roads and is perhaps best known for the railway known as Ferrocarril de Pacifico or El Chepe that runs from Chihuahua to the coast at the Sea of Cortez.

The Tarahumara are generally small in statue with most under 5 feet tall. But they are known to be some of the best ultra distance runners. Most of the men wear modern clothes and are employed in mining and agriculture. The women still wear their traditional brightly-colored dresses and can be seen around town selling hand-made crafts.
