Some say 'Karthik Vrat'. Somewhere this festival is called 'Rakher Upabas'. Many people also know it as 'Gonsair Upabas' and 'Ghrit Pradeep Prajalan' festival. It is said that Baba Loknath asked to observe fast in the month of Kartik and light lamps and incense in the ashram premises to avoid various deadly diseases. Since then, Sanatana devotees celebrate the festival on every Saturday and Tuesday of the last 15 days of the month of Kartik. Thousands of devotees lit ghee lamps and prayed. After lighting the lamp and praying in the evening, they break their fast by floating it in water.

Due to unplanned urbanization, improper drainage planning and management, excessive encroachment of natural water bodies, heavy rainfall and tidal water effect results waterlogging problem in CCC area. Last five years, 1/3 of the City of Chittagong went under water during the rainy season .

The coastal district of Cox's Bazar produces dried fish, called shutki in Bangla, worth around Tk 300 crore every year, with about one lakh people directly involved in the trade.
The process of preparing dried fish starts in October in Naziratek in the town, Sonadia Island under Maheshkhali upazila, Sundaripara Chhanua riverbed in Pekua upazila, Teknaf, Shamlapur, St Martin's Island and Baro Ghop in Kutubdia upazila.
Naziratek on the beach at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal near Cox's Bazar airport has become the largest shutki mahal of the country in last one decade.
