From Sea to Traditional Myanmar Crab Cuisine
Crab is more than a delicious local food in Myanmar, it reflects the close connection between communities, rivers, coastal water and traditional ways of life. This photo essay follows the crab from its fresh catch, through cleaning and careful preparation to the cooking process over a gas stove. Placed in a wok over the flame, the crabs are cooked with aromatic spices, herbs and local ingredients, gradually turning golden-orange as their rich flavor and fragrance develop. The simple stove, traditional cookware and hands on preparation reveal a food tradition shaped by generations of local knowledge. From the water to the fire, each stage tells a story of Myanmar’s natural resources, cultural heritage and love for flavorful local seafood.
