Watch NASA and Rocket Lab launch two CubeSats into orbit for the TROPICS (Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation structure and storm Intensity with a Constellation of Smallsats) mission. Launch is targeted at 9 p.m. EDT April 30, 2023, (0100 UTC Monday, May 1) at the opening of a two-hour launch window from Launch Complex 1 Pad B in Māhia, New Zealand. TROPICS is a constellation of four identical CubeSats designed to observe tropical cyclones from low Earth orbit, making observations more frequently than current weather tracking satellites.

This 4K visualization shows the Moon's phase and libration at hourly intervals throughout 2022, as viewed from the Northern Hemisphere. Each frame represents one hour. In addition, this visualization shows the Moon's orbit position, sub-Earth and subsolar points, and distance from the Earth at true scale. Craters near the terminator are labeled, as are Apollo landing sites, maria, and other albedo features in sunlight. Happy ! This week’s space weather report includes 3 notable solar flares, 23 coronal mass ejections, and 1 geomagnetic storm. This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the Sun over the past week, including some especially dynamic activity about 20 seconds in.

Near the end, some spacecraft calibration maneuvers cause the view of the Sun to shift.
