Demonstrator in Town!

Today Airbus A350-900 (F-WWCF) which is used by Airbus as a Testbed landed at Dhaka at 08:55AM local time from it’s base in Toulouse.

The aircraft will perform a display flight on 20th March to show its capabilities to the local operators

Saudi Retro in town!

A great surprise for the local spotters of Dhaka as Saudi Airlines sent their wonderful 75Yrs (1945-2020)Retro Liveried B777-300ER (HZ-AK28) to Dhaka which landed around 3:23PM local time ending the wait of 6 months for many spotters.
HZ-AK28 was previously painted in the Watan Al Majed livery from September 2015 to September 2021.

This retro livery was very common in Dhaka when Saudia used to operate their L1011 747-300 and DC8 aircraft

The national Flag Carrier turns 50!!

Today the National Flag carrier of Airlines completed 50yrs of service

Biman Bangladesh was founded in 4th January 1972 after the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan and Commenced operations in 4th February 1972.

Biman started operations with DC3 which they received on 16th January 1972.The DC3 operated Biman’s first flight from Dhaka to Chittagong then sylhet,Jessore and Ishwardi.
Unfortunately the aircraft crashed after a few days but soon after Biman got 2 F28s from Air India.In her 50yrs of service Biman operated B707s,DC10s,A310,747s and many more.
Biman currently operate
5 Dash8-q400
6 B737-800NGX
4 B787-8 Dream)Liner
2 B787-9 Dreamliner
And
4 B777-300ER

Cathay starts passenger flights to Bangladesh!

Yesterday at 3:03PM the first Cathay Passenger flight CX2667 Operated by an Airbus A330-300 (B-LAE) Departed Hong Kong and landed in Dhaka Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport,Dhaka Bangladesh at around 4:43PM

Dragon Air used to operate flights between Hong Kong and Dhaka till October 2020 when they ceased operation

Cathay operates regular cargo flights to Dhaka using their 747s since the 2000s

Previously Biman Bangladesh Airlines used to operate regular flight BG078/079 between Hong Kong and Dhaka using their DC10s till 2015 but they only Operate Cargo flights now

The struggling National Carrier has been sold to Tata Sons!

Tata Sons became the highest bidder at nearly $2.4bn (£1.7bn).

The airlines was originally founded by Tata groups in 1932 and the government took over the airlines in 1953

The national carrier had been making losses since it merged with the state-owned domestic operator Indian Airlines in 2007 and relied on taxpayer-funded bailouts to stay operational. The government said it was making a loss of nearly 200m rupees ($2.6m) every day to run the airline.

Air India operates a fleet of 129 Aircrafts consisting of A319,A320,A320Neo,A321,
Boeing 747-400,Boeing 777-200LR Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787-8 Dream)Liner
To 127 destinations.

2 Back to back A350s in town!!!

Thai Airways for the first time sent their A350-900 to Dhaka last Tuesday as a cargo flight making them the 3rd Airlines to operate A350 to Dhaka along with Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

On the other hand Singapore Airlines A350 also visited Dhaka last Tuesday.

Bangladesh lost a good pilot!

A great loss for Bangladesh Aviation as Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum passed away this morning at Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur India.

Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum suffered a heart attack at 37000ft while operating flight BG022 from Muscat to Dhaka.The plane was over Kolkata FIR and the first officer and the rest of the crew quickly decided to divert the flight to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur.
The aircraft (S2-AEW) landed on runway 32 in Nagpur and stopped on the runway.Captain Nawshad was rushed to the Kingsway Hospital and was in deep coma as a result of brain hemorrhage which was caused by the heart attack and he was in Ventilator support.

In 2016,Captain Nawshad made a successful emergency landing in Dhaka while operating BG122 a B737-800(S2-AFL)from Muscat to Dhaka with a stopover in Chittagong.
After takeoff Muscat Tower informed him that they have found some tire fragments on the runway which was possibly from BG122.Then the captain decided to divert to Dhaka instead of going to Chittagong for better emergency services.He decided to make 2 low approach so that the Biman engineers can inspect the Landing gears from the ground.They reported back to the captain that one of the tire of left main landing was damaged and the captain performed a safe emergency landing saving all the passengers and crew for which he was praised by the IFALPA(International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations).

Captain Nawshad was the first officer of the Biman’s B777 series aircraft and he was the first Bangladeshi pilot to fly Biman’s B777-300ER.He was the part of the crew of the Delivery flight of S2-AFP from Seattle to Dhaka.

His passing is a great loss for Biman Bangladesh Airlines and also for Bangladesh Aviation.

Our condolence are with his family and may Allah grant him Jannat.
