Dhaka University Photographic Society - DUPS Dhaka University Photographic Society(DUPS) started its journey from 1999. Its mission is to deal with the passionate ones. The organization has 30 members.

Since then DUPS is producing artisan and master craftsman. Membership is comprised of a wide variety of interests, from traditional to digital, with a full range of expertise, from beginners to recognized experts. Membership in the DUPS is open to Dhaka University students having interest in photography regardless of skill level. The society offers members an opportunity to learn Photography and share experiences with others. DUPS organize Basic Photography Training Program in which interested persons can attend, Workshops, Social works, exhibitions year long.

On 30th August 2026, Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) celebrated its 27th Anniversary & Freshers’ Reception, marking another memorable chapter in its journey with an evening of celebration, creativity and togetherness.

As the guests and alumni took their seats, the evening unfolded with a vibrant cultural programme featuring group and solo dances, musical performances and stage dramas, presented by both the freshers and the members of DUPS. The cultural segment was further enriched by nostalgic recreation of classic Bangladeshi television advertisements, bringing familiar memories to life on stage.

The performances filled the evening with music, rhythm, laughter and enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere enjoyed by everyone present. Beyond the celebration itself, the programme reflected the vibrant spirit, creativity and sense of community that have remained integral to DUPS throughout its 27-year journey.

As DUPS embarks on another year, we look forward to many more moments of creativity, collective spirit and celebration in the days ahead.

The Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) successfully celebrated its 27th Anniversary & Freshers’ Reception on 30 August 2026 at the TSC Auditorium, University of Dhaka.

The celebration was graced by our Chief Guest, Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), University of Dhaka; Special Guest, Hasan Saifuddin Chandan, Director, MAP Photo Agency; and distinguished guests Professor Hasan A. Shafie, Former Moderator, DUPS; Md. Israfil Prang, Proctor (Acting) & Associate Professor, Department of Graphic Design, University of Dhaka; Masuqul Islam, Founding President and Life-Time Member of DUPS; Zakirul Mazed Konok, Secretary General, Bangladesh Photographic Society-BPS; and Ala Uddin Mohammed, Owner and Founder, Digital Shop.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr. S. M. Arif Mahmud, Department of Anthropology and Moderator of DUPS, University of Dhaka. The presence of our respected guests, alumni, members, and freshers made the celebration truly memorable.

27 Years: Framing Legacies

Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) was established in 1999 by a group of young photography enthusiasts from the University of Dhaka as a central co-curricular organization aiming to promote photography and its continuous practice. Since its establishment, DUPS has organized basic photography courses, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, portfolio reviews, judging sessions, weekly outings and many activities to develop the skills and knowledge of the photography enthusiasts.

DUPS annually organizes basic photography courses that are open to the students of the University of Dhaka, students from other institutions and people from different professions. It held its first Inter-University Photography Exhibition in 2010 and its first National Photography Festival at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 2012. Through its national exhibitions, including the 4th National Photography Exhibition in 2017, where renowned photographer Nasir Ali Mamun received a Lifetime Achievement Award, DUPS has made a significant contribution to photography in Bangladesh.

In 2019, DUPS organized its first international photography festival- Dhaka International Photo Fest. It also holds annual photography competition and exhibition every year featuring works by its members, along with photography sessions, seminars, and interactions with renowned photographers. DUPS continues to promote photography among students and enthusiasts. Its membership does not require owning a camera; it only requires an interest in photography and a willingness to learn.
