In God’s path
Varanasi | 2018
Varanasi, one of the oldest cities is seeing its first big infra project, a corridor from the Ganga to Kashi Vishwanath temple. The point of the project, officials say, is to enhance pilgrim experience. A pilgrim seeking to offer prayers at the Vishwanath temple after a dip in the Ganga will now face nothing in between congestion, crowds, or cows. Also being swept away in the process, say residents, is a way of life, as families that have lived for generations in the same house are moved to the outskirts of the city. At least 300 residential houses, a good number of shrines of importance and cultural significance are being demolished to make way to the new walkway.
