Adolescence comes with a lot of challenges and finding your style is just one of them. Last year, I took my daughter for a shopping day, to try on different clothes and styles.
We entered one of the shops and her eyes got stuck, not on the exposed clothes but on a photo on the wall, probably from a previous collection. It was a black knitted vest worn on top of a white shirt. I promised her to knit a similar one for her. I went home and searched all over the internet for that photo, with no success. I had to rely on my memory: a deep v-neck, a bit oversized, not too long and for sure black.
I found the vest by to best match my memories. The material had to be a soft wool, therefore I combined a thread of with a thread of .
The indications were very clear from my daughter: to be comfortable and not too tight. Therefore, I chose the size M for my knit.
Normally, after finishing the vest I would iron it with steam to block it but as the size was too large for me already, I have not done it before these photos.
There are two ways to wear this vest: outside to hide your waist or with the reversed band, to draw the attention on your waist. Which one do you prefer? Personally, I would pick the latter.
I find that having a black vest is one of those basic clothes that you need to have in your wardrobe. It works indeed for an office outfit as well as for a more casual occasion.
But in the end, the biggest satisfaction from this project was to see my daughter wearing it.
