Hard to describe the feeling of attending Port Arthur, Tasmania and standing in the spot where almost exactly 28 years prior 35 people were killed and 23 wounded in a mass shooting that stopped Australia in its tracks. The country came together and immediately decided that they could never let this happen again. The federal government passed the National Fi****ms Agreement, aligning all state gun laws, significantly restricting gun ownership eligibility, and funding two gun buybacks and voluntary amnesty gun surrenders. My heart breaks for America that we would allow so much harm in our own country for the sake of a biased interpretation of the second amendment. I was once asked by an American how I could feel safe living in a place that doesn’t allow guns, and been told by other Americans that they could never live in a country like Australia bc they wouldn’t be allowed to own guns. The mindset is so toxic and pervasive and again, heartbreaking. I wish people could understand the peace of mind living without guns. April 2024.

We’ve just had a week of heartfelt goodbyes in Perth and scrambling to get ready to leave Australia for now. Thank you to all the lovelies that we got to see, and to the others we weren’t able to see. I am really going to miss this Australian life we’ve had 🥹 Next stop, België!!!!

Week 18- we boogied up the coast from Hobart to Freycinet. Wineglass Bay and the pink granites were beautiful. I also wanted to show off my first hand-stitching attempt (outside of the odd button). We were gifted this old fleece sweater back in 2020 in our Pemberton farm work days at the start of Covid. We did not have enough warm clothes for the SW autumn and couldn’t exactly go shopping, so the family we were living with gave us a bunch of old clothes and our favourite was the fleece, but it had a big hole in the front so it was always a house-sweater. I finally patched it up and I’m pretty chuffed with the result.

If you don’t know I’m a bit obsessed with the extinct Thylacine, aka Tasmanian Tiger. The story of the Thylacine and the impact humans had on their numbers is so tragic to me. We accidentally stumbled on the ‘Zoo’ in Hobart where the last known Thylacine died alone in captivity in 1936.
