This 'snapshot' is my personal favourite photograph of the HO13 event. I was doing a magazine photoshoot of a Type 34 Karmann Ghia convertible in Schulstraße when this Porsche Type 64 drove by. I managed to focus just in time before it disappeared around the corner. It made my day 😎

Amazingly, a video was shot from inside the 1938 Type 64 Berlin-Rome race car right at that moment. If you look closely, you can spot my blue Type 34 and me (with the camera), the other Type 34 (the convertible, the car I was actually making photos of) and the funny bystander. Many thanks to my friend Undis Kanepe who made the video and posted it on YouTube.

PS: turn on the sound when watching the video. The sound the Type 64 makes while driving is extraordinary 🤟

Every four years, Hessisch Oldendorf - a small town in Lower Saxony, Germany - is invaded by classic Volkswagens of all kinds. You might wonder - what's so special about this VW meeting...? Isn't it just one of so many Classic Volkswagens gatherings? Well, I suggest to take a look at my photos from the 6th edition, then you will understand...! Unlike most VW gatherings, the 'VW Veteranen Treffen' in Hessisch Oldendorf only admits original & really old (mainly pre 1957) Volkswagens. The first edition took place in 1993 and the event has since grown into the largest and most important of its kind. Participants from all over the world come to share their passion, many arriving in their classic VW after a long road trip from neighboring countries, some flying over from other continents for an experience that is unique in the world. There is no better place to spot pre-1957 Volkswagens than in 'Hessisch': Split window Beetles, early Karmann Ghia's, Vintage Buses and rare VW prototypes. And all in one place, three days in a row.

One of the most special Volkswagens I ever photographed (back in 2010) will undoubtedly be one of the big attractions this weekend at the world famous Concours d'Elegance of Amelia Island, Florida. The 1951 Rometsch Beeskow Coupé, which belongs to the Grundmann Collection, has been shipped specially from Germany for the occasion. Good luck during the competition, Traugott & Christian.
