About tonight’s epic sunset…

Over the last few days, a massive Saharan dust plume over Western Europe has been transforming ordinary sunsets into impressive colourful displays, even causing the Sun and its sunspots to be visible to the naked eye (and photo camera) without filters.

Today’s star at Brussels Airport was - without any doubt - this magnificent Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-941 with registration B-LRJ.

It was the third visit of this aircraft in its new livery but meteo conditions on the previous two occasions were poor.

This Cathay Pacific Airbus A350 is just one of two aircraft currently wearing the airline’s iconic and classic “lettuce leaf sandwich” livery, next to Boeing 747 B-LJE. Another special livery will be announced soon. These new liveries were announced few months ago by Cathay Pacific to celebrate the airline’s 80th anniversary.

Airbus A350-941 B-LRJ is depicted hereon short finals for RWY 25L at Brussels Airport on a sunny morning, inbound from Hong Kong as flight CX291 HKG-BRU 🇭🇰🛫🛬🇧🇪

Did you manage to get a photo of this magnificent special livery at Brussels Airport or another airport?

Meet Gravity! 🇧🇪🚀🌘

Today Brussels Airlines, in collaboration with Tintinimaginatio, unveiled its latest Belgian Icon ‘Gravity’, a tribute to one of Belgium’s most internationally cherished and world-renowned characters: Tintin.

Airbus A320-214 OO-SNJ arrived back in Brussels late yesterday evening after dusk from the paint facility at Teesside International Airport (MME), where it got its new striking livery applied by Brussels Airlines’ partner Airbourne Colours.

The port side of the aircraft features Tintin (wearing his famous orange space suit) and the Moon, while the starboard side features Snowy and Captain Haddock (also in their space suit). The cherry ‘under’ the cake is the moon-rocket on the belly of the aircraft.

The Tintin experience continues inside the aircraft as the entire cabin interior (including the overhead compartment) was decorated with many Tintin visuals representing the character’s lunar endeavours as well as Hergé’s handwritten quote “A force de croire en ses rêves, l’Homme en fait une réalité.”

The first commercial service is planned for tomorrow morning as the aircraft is scheduled to operate flight SN3147 from Brussels, Belgium to Milan Linate, Italy, leaving Brussels at 10:25 local time (pending operational changes)

The Sun today as seen through a Baader Planetarium AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0, designed for safe solar observation and photography with all spotting scopes, amateur telescopes and camera lenses.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of ‘active regions’ of sunspots, the biggest one being NOAA AR 4366.

Active region AR 4366 has become a much discussed active region over the past few days, not only because of its significant size, but also because of the number of flares it has produced, including 5 X-class flares and 42 M-class flares.

Unfortunately, AR 4366 is also a complex active region in terms of magnetic disturbances, currently preventing this active region to produce significant CME’s.
