✨ The white stork, one of Europe’s most iconic birds, thrives alongside humans, breeding on rooftops and foraging on freshly mown meadows. Unlike its secretive relative, the black stork, it embraces the human touch. 🏠🌾

Yet, despite their popularity, white storks are not as common as they once were. They are now mainly found in Spain, Poland, and the Baltic region. To survive, they need open landscapes like flood plains and meadows, but such habitats are becoming rare due to flawed agricultural policies.

One of the most endangered bird species in Flanders. Not surprising because it is a typical inhabitant of open, smaller fields with singing places such as meadow posts, a tree or shrub. That landscape has almost disappeared in our country due to intensive agriculture, unfortunately along with its typical farmland birds.

This elegant bird, also known as the “vorkstaartplevier” in Dutch, stood majestically on the ground. The sunset cast a warm glow over the scene, enhancing the details of its plumage. 🌅
