Beautiful ruins and the untold stories written within these crumbling walls.

This is a collection of several villas. The opening aerial view is from the historical Villa Sbertoli, in Tuscany. The beautiful hallway is Villa Natalia, at the banks of Lago Maggiore, in Stresa. Hemingway was a guest in this very villa. The very last bit is Villa Busseto ☀️

The overgrown and derelict grand entrance gate of Fort Ricasoli—an enormous fortification from 1670, on the island of Malta.

I’ve seen my fair share of forts & gates, but this was unprecedented. At my time of visit these parts were deserted, off-limits & not accessible. “What we do in life … echoes in eternity”, Maximus Meridius once said. So I pushed through, with the reward seeing and experiencing an old-world relic few ever see.

Now we are free 🕊️

The beautiful frescoed salon inside a forgotten villa, set along the banks of Lago d’Iseo in Italy.

Couldn’t find any historical facts, so I’m merely stating the obvious facts. For starters it looks very old, I reckon it’s at least a few centuries old. The home is built around a central open courtyard—a large family home that most likely ran an agricultural business.

The stunning murals all show epic coastal scenes. Large fragments already disappeared from the passing of time. It’s unclear why the family left, and when.

Today a local farmer uses the vacant building as a chicken coop. That’s free-ranging in style 🐓

Manifesting! Who’s with me? 🙋‍♀️

The spectacular view of Lago Maggiore, taken from the beautiful but abandoned residence of fashion designer Gianfranco Ferré, former director of Christian Dior.

Located on the banks of the lake this 1900s castle has its own private beach, shaped with terraced gardens full of grottos & columns.

This region is one of my fav areas from Italy. What’s yours? 💛

Impressive views of Craco, a deserted hilltop village in Italy.

This charming old town was simply not fit for modern day infrastructure. In the 1960s massive landslides occurred during the construction of sewer canals and water systems, which eventually led to the total evacuation and abandonment of the town in the 1980s.

Today it’s a ghost town, sitting dormant on an imposing but crumbling cliff.

Beautiful views inside a historical villa, in Italy.

Perched amidst rolling hills and vineyards this exceptionally large 1900s villa is just one hour of Torino, Piedmont’s capital city.

This villa was a venue for wine tastings, featuring a big vaulted cellar underground. It went through a couple of renovation rounds until the 2020 pandemic led to the bankruptcy of its owners.

So they’re selling! Listed at € 1,5 million you get a villa of 1,200 m² with many rooms and halls entirely frescoed. Comes with its own private park and century-old trees. Listing available upon request.

Troubled Waters 🧜🏻‍♀️

An entire ecosystem slowly takes root within the confined space of a derelict swim hall, in Italy.

This phenomenal sight is the result of a closure due to the 2020 pandemic. This was a communal pool, built in 1997, of Veronese ownership. It had a troubled past though: mismanagement, financial troubles, debts to the municipality—it struggled to stay afloat. The global pandemic was the final stroke.

The speed of how this biome naturally forms is simply mind boggling. This water was once full of chlorine and other chemical agents. Nowadays ferns feed onto this organic bouillon.

Paddle-boarding, anyone? 🏄‍♀️

For the past couple of months I have been photographing interiors with TTArtisan’s brand new 17mm tilt/shift lens, a very niche lens perfect for architecture. A recap of some of the places I photographed:

1-3: the remarkable Hotel d’Hane-Steenhuyse, a 1760s city palace in Ghent.
4-6: Hôtel Solvay, an 1890s art nouveau town house designed by architect Victor Horta, in Brussels.
7-12: Palace of the Academies, built in the 1820s for Crown Prince William II, in Brussels.
13-14: the lens that captured all these, the TT Artisan 17mm tilt/shift lens. Now available for Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji and Leica.
