Depending on the vessel’s draft, the gangway ladder is often very low, with risk of collision with the Pilot Boat platform. In that scenario, we choose to transfer directly on the Pilot Boat boat deck without using the platform.
Another curious thing in this video is that the steps of the pilot ladder are not made of wood, but plastic or synthetic material.

“The price is high”. But there is no price for the expertise. Pilots have been maneuvering vessels in and out ports for centuries. Without them, port operations would simply loose the efficiency and the number of accidents would be tremendously high, elevating the shipping costs to an unacceptable level. Pilots are a valuable and necessary asset to make the gears that move the ports can rotate smoothly and safely. ⬜️🟥
