Part 3 — A Year Later
Exactly one year later, I decided to finally race a Spartan Super, trail-style.
The one thing I had been trying to avoid was now inevitable:
The dirt. 😅
This time, it was a 10K.
The Stadion the year before was only 5K.
But this time, I felt much more prepared — which made sense, considering I had actually trained for what was ahead.
10K was still scary. I had never done it before… maybe once during training, but that was it.
I talked to some experienced racers I had met along the way while working as a photographer, and they supported me like I had been one of the homies for years.
I don’t think they really know how important that support was to me.
Race day came.
I showed up to the venue and met all those guys again — but this time, I wasn’t behind the lens.
I was one of them.
The anxiety started to disappear as we talked, warmed up, and got ready to race.
One of them had a particularly special impact on me that day. He was there at the starting line and at the finish line — of course, he finished way before me 😅 — cheering not only for me, but for his friends and even other racers challenging themselves that hot Saturday morning.
My goal was to finish under 90 minutes.
I didn’t.
And honestly? I couldn’t care less.
I was beyond proud.
I finished the 10K easier than I had anticipated, completed the spear throw — FINALLY! 😂 — and was so excited about it that I almost forgot about the huge blister forming on my hand.
Two obstacles later, I definitely remembered.
My hand was destroyed by the final section, with the rope climb, slip wall, and hercules hoist still ahead of me.
But I kept going.
And when I crossed that finish line, the relief was unreal.
I was still standing.
No cramps.
Still had some energy left.
And, most importantly…
I had a feeling this wasn’t going to be my last one.
Two years ago, I was wondering why anyone would willingly do this.
A year later, I was wondering what I should challenge myself with next.
Not a Beast. Not yet. 😅
For now, I’m preparing for something completely different:
HYROX.
And I hope this time I can do even better than the last ones.
Not the best.
My best. 💪🏽🔥
