A part of the "Attraction Dilemma" series of artworks about the cosmos and its entities.
The last time humans ventured past the Earth-Moon Lagrange Point (L1) was during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.
On April 6 2026 Artemis ii manned mission to the Moon crossed this liberation point, where the gravitational pull of the Earth and the Moon balance out with the centrifugal force felt by the spacecraft.
There are many other Lagrange Points (like Sun-Earth L1) - which can be considered as parking spots in space - where vital instruments like telescopes and satellites are placed to observe the cosmos and maintain a fixed position relative to the two bodies with very little effort.
About L1, Lagrange Point:
The artwork serves as a minimalist, metaphorical representation of gravitational equilibrium.
Visual Positioning:
My aim with this artwork was to capture the precise and delicate nature of these invisible "parking spots" in space.
The "OK" hand gesture creates a literal and figurative focal point. The circle formed by the thumb and index finger symbolizes the L1 point itself - a specific, narrow coordinate where forces are perfectly aligned.
The Aesthetic of Balance:
The composition mirrors the "tug-of-war" of a libration point. The weight of the Moon in the upper right is balanced by the upward reach of the arm, illustrating the tension and stability found at the point where gravity and centrifugal force cancel each other out.
The piece strips away the complex math of libration to focus on the human desire to reach out and "touch" the precise locations where the universe's forces hold still.
