I don’t know about you, but I’m dreaming of some warmer weather and salty skin.

This was one of those days that just felt good from start to finish. Out on the ocean, mountains all around us, sun actually showing up, and then a big chinook on the line. Strong, steady fight. Exactly why I love being out there.

Bent rods, salt in the air, warm weather, tired arms, and great company.

Anyone else counting down to more days like this?

Facing ā€˜Risk of Frostbite’ while winter truck camping

Went winter truck camping in -28° because apparently I like ā€œpeace and quietā€ with a side of chaos šŸ˜‚

The plan?

Relaxing night. Fire crackling. Backcountry silence. Tailgate cooking something warm and questionable. Just me and the wild.

Reality?

Woke up absolutely DUMPED on. A full foot of snow overnight. Truck looking like a powdered donut. Fingers numb. Water and eggs frozen. That ā€œpeaceful silenceā€ turned into ā€œokay this is actually very cold, very fast.ā€

Had to bunker down and switch from vibing to surviving real quick.

But honestly… there’s something about earning your morning coffee at -28° that hits different.

Type 2 fun at its finest. Would I do it again?
Yeah. Probably.

Who else romanticizes winter camping and then questions all their life choices at 3am

It took me too long to get this..

For a while, I’ve been camping in the back of the pickup with a propane heater -fully aware I was pumping in wet heat and taking a real risk with carbon monoxide.

I knew about diesel heaters and the dry heat they produce. The challenge was finding one at a fair price that wasn’t just another cheap Amazon knockoff.

That’s when I came across - a Canadian company building quality heaters. I could tell right away this one was different. When I fired it up, there was no constant fuel pump ticking like everyone complains about with other brands. It was quiet. The heat was solid. And it felt built with the kind of reliability that lets you sleep easy on the coldest nights in the back of the truck.

Took it out for its first real run this week. -28 and a foot of snow in the forecast. I threw together a makeshift cover knowing it would get buried, and made sure the exhaust was nowhere near anything that could block it. The heater had to work for it, but it kept me warm all night. Woke up to a pretty unreal view.
Happy lad.

Abraham Lake was unreal this weekend. Skating on perfectly clear ice in the middle of the Rockies, stickhandling a puck across glassy blue ice -something I’ve wanted to do for years. No boards, no noise… just mountains and wind.

After skating, I chopped wood, cooked dinner off the tailgate, and watched the sun drop behind the peaks. Crawled into the truck cab for the night and woke up to a light dusting of snow. Quiet. Cold. Perfect.

Grateful for wild places like this. The scenery doesn’t even look real

Everyone deserves a day in the backcountry. No one around, just you and your best bud. Everything from top to bottom is incredible. The scenery, the smells, sounds.. and the fish. It’s an adventure to get there, and once you do you won’t want to leave.

Not saying your adventure needs to be in this place, but you need an adventure. Somewhere you feel alive. A moment? A sound? What makes you wake up and think ā€˜this is it!’

Would love to hear what yours is!

This stretch of warm winter weather has me daydreaming about a summer drift down the Bow.

Guides day off. No alarms. Just two buds in a boat pushing off early and letting the river set the pace.

The kind of day where the drifts line up, the laughs are easy, and every fish feels like a bonus. Big rosie cheeks flashing in the sun, cold river on your hands, and nowhere else to be.

Hard to believe it’s February when it feels like July out there.

If this keeps up, I might have to tie some hoppers and start thinking about the first float of the year

Shack attack?

Not only does have some sweet merch, they also run shack rentals just a short drive from a major city (Edmonton).

I had an awesome stay out on Lac la Nonne chasing pike and walleye -with the bonus shot at perch and burbot too.

Honestly, it was the perfect little getaway to rest and recharge.

If you’re looking to get out on the ice, get in touch with Jordan and book your own trip.
