When asked turn around time for a mini or regular session I tell them 2 weeks. It isn’t just the 30-60 minutes I spend with a family, it’s the 250-500 some odd pics i take of them that I need to cull through, then review and decide if the duplicates which ones I’m going to save or get rid of. Then there’s the ones that are so similar but might see two totally different capture so need to edit and rethink and keep or get rid of… weddings are typically about an 8 hour day and crunching that down into a 6-8 week turn over time is pushing it. If it was my full time job, I would obviously be able to dedicate more time to it, but as it’s not, it’s another reason I keep the costs down and competitive with others. I might not have all the newest camera gear anymore, and lenses are even pricier (even though I own like five) and editing programs so new that I don’t have time to relearn some things that might make my workflow faster and easier but my trusty old actions do the job just as well and still let me do what I need. When it comes down to the final images from a session, a clients mini might have had me editing about 5-6 hrs; a regular session about 8-10. It was fun to see my 30-45 minute editing session boiled down to 30 some odd seconds. I always get excited when I’m closer to the finish line and able to hand over the proofs! I always hope clients enjoy how I’ve seen their event/celebration.
