June 2026 in Riverside.

The marinas are filling with boaters, anglers are back on the water, and Riverside's lush green landscape has returned for another summer season. Along the Detroit River, docks are busy, parks are vibrant, and the shoreline is once again alive with activity.

From early morning fishing trips to evening walks along the waterfront, June brings renewed energy to one of Windsor's most beloved neighbourhoods. Seasonal boating activity is underway at the area's marinas, including facilities near Peche Island and Lake St. Clair, as residents and visitors make the most of the warmer weather.

The combination of waterfront views, active marinas, fishing opportunities, and expansive green spaces continues to make Riverside a favourite destination for Windsorites throughout the summer months.

Local residents frequently highlight the riverfront's boats, parks, and outdoor atmosphere as some of the area's defining attractions.

Dean Marine and Excavating : Gettin' her done (unlike anything you have ever seen)

With possibly one of the longer loads to transit the waters of the Great Lakes. (longer than the 1000' lake freighters that pass by regularly)

From our estimates, given the length of the tugs, barge, tow lines and load, this entire length of this is perhaps over 1500' feet long.

Dean Marine and Excavating's lead tug the Madison R is 103' long plus the tow line which appears to be more than double her length, plus the barge Louise at 120' plus her tow line , then the secondary barge and finally the load of 12 pipes (10) which are 1000' long steel pipes.

The dredging pipelines have been temporarily welded together at 1000' lengths (with the ends capped) and will be transported and later assembled on the job site (according to DME staff)

Costco Windsor East : June 2026

The new Costco planned for east Windsor, Ontario, first became known publicly through a development application submitted to the City of Windsor nearly two years ago on August 9, 2024.

The application outlined plans for a 158,000-square-foot Costco warehouse, along with a gas bar, tire centre, garden centre, and nearly 1,000 parking spaces near Tecumseh Road East and Catherine Street. While Costco did not make a formal public announcement at that time, the proposal began attracting public attention in late August and September 2024 after local residents and media outlets discovered the plans in municipal planning documents.

The project gained wider public visibility on January 31, 2025, when local news reports indicated that the development was moving forward to Windsor’s Development and Heritage Standing Committee for review. Since then, approvals and site preparation work have progressed, and by 2026 construction was reported to be underway.

From all appearances, it would look as if there will be two entrance / exits off Tecumseh Road in addition to the one off Lauzon Parkway.

As of June 2026, there are small signs of progress on the property. Unofficial sources maintain that the new store will be open and built by fall of 2026.

BBC GENOA

Built in 2024, the BBC GENOA is a modern heavy-lift and general cargo vessel designed to support global project cargo and breakbulk transportation. With an overall length of approximately 492 feet (150 meters), the ship offers impressive cargo-handling capabilities while maintaining operational efficiency across international shipping routes.

The BBC GENOA has quickly become a notable addition to the maritime industry, attracting attention for its advanced engineering, versatile cargo capacity, and reliable performance. Companies seeking dependable ocean freight solutions often look to vessels like the BBC GENOA for transporting oversized equipment, industrial components, and specialized cargo worldwide.

The BBC GENOA is operated by BBC Chartering, a German heavy-lift and multipurpose shipping company headquartered in Leer, Germany. BBC Chartering is part of the Briese Schiffahrt Group and manages a global fleet specializing in project cargo, breakbulk, and heavy-lift transportation.

Captured here in late May 2026 as she heads upstream in the Livingstone Channel of the Detroit River on her way to Thunder Bay, Ontario. (if you take a quick glance at some of the last pictures, from a distant vantage point, it almost looks like the vessel is travelling backwards due to its design)

Trotting with the Amish.

Stepping away from many of the pressures of modern society.

The Amish of Ontario offer a fascinating glimpse into a simpler way of life that has changed little over the past two centuries. In communities across Bruce and Grey counties, visitors may spot horse-drawn buggies travelling along quiet rural roads—a visible symbol of the Amish commitment to faith, family, and tradition.

Many Old Order Amish households live without grid electricity, televisions, internet access, or most modern appliances. Instead, they rely on manual labour, horse power, wood stoves, and strong community support networks. Farming, woodworking, quilting, and craftsmanship remain central to daily life, while church services are often held in family homes rather than dedicated church buildings.

This and other areas in Ontario are home to significant Amish settlements. Many settlements can be found near Lucknow, Kincardine, Tiverton, and Chesley. Amish communities can also be found in Milverton and Millbank in Perth County—the oldest and largest Amish settlement in Canada as well as in Norwich, Aylmer and the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes.

Despite living in the heart of modern Ontario, the Amish continue to preserve a distinctive culture rooted in humility, self-sufficiency, and strong family values. Their horse-and-buggy lifestyle remains one of the province's most unique and enduring traditions.

Many people admire Amish culture in Ontario for its strong sense of community, where neighbors regularly help one another with major projects, farming work, and times of need. Family is also central to Amish life, with close relationships between generations and a strong emphasis on spending time together. These values often create a deep sense of belonging and mutual support.

In an increasingly fast-paced and technology driven world, the Amish way of life invites reflection on what is gained and what may be lost as society continues to modernize.

Just another sunny mid-May afternoon in 2026 with Algoma Central Corporation's freighter Algoma Innovator .

We captured the 650' long vessel as she glided steadily between Amherstburg and Boblo Island, her blue hull cutting through the Amherstburg Channel of the Detroit River.

Built as part of Algoma’s modern Equinox fleet, the Innovator carries the quiet confidence of a working ship designed for efficiency and endurance on the inland seas.

Against the fresh green shoreline and the fading echoes of Boblo’s amusement park past, the vessel’s low hum and towering profile turned an ordinary spring day into a reminder that the Great Lakes are still alive with industry, motion, and tradition.

CSL ST-LAURENT - Between the Bridges

It's May 2026, and the towering CSL St-Laurent delivered a spectacular scene on the Detroit River as it passes between the historic Ambassador Bridge and the newly completed Gordie Howe International Bridge, creating a striking visual contrast between nearly a century of Great Lakes shipping history and the future of North American trade infrastructure.

Owned and operated by The CSL Group, the state-of-the-art Trillium Class bulk carrier stretches an impressive 739 feet 10 inches in length and is recognized across the Great Lakes for its environmental efficiency, advanced hull design, and iconic “The Sea Keeper” mural — a massive Canada goose artwork created by Montreal artists Beyung, FONKi, Ankh One, and Benny Wilding.

Painted directly onto the ship’s accommodation block in 2017, the mural symbolizes harmony between marine transportation and the natural beauty of the St. Lawrence waterway, making the CSL St-Laurent one of the most visually recognizable vessels sailing the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway today.

The Flying Inflatable Boat aka "FIB".

Touch and Go time with Brandon and Dave.

Aircraft perform touch-and-go circuits as a practical way to train pilots in one of the most critical phases of flight: takeoff and landing.

In a touch-and-go, the aircraft lands on the runway (or waterway) and then immediately takes off again without coming to a full stop, allowing pilots to practice multiple circuits efficiently in a short period of time.

This training improves landing accuracy, runway control, radio communication, situational awareness, and decision-making under changing conditions.

The main benefit is that pilots gain repeated real-world experience while saving time, fuel, and airport resources compared with stopping and taxiing back for each departure.
