Why do professional photography services cost what they do?

These two screenshots are a perfect example.

In January 2026, I purchased a CFexpress card for $200. Today, that exact same card costs $449.

Not a camera. Not a lens. Not a computer.

Just one memory card.

This small piece of equipment is essential to my business. It stores your wedding memories, graduation portraits, family photos, corporate headshots, and every moment I capture for my clients.

When people see photography pricing, they often think they’re paying for someone to show up and take photos. The reality is that behind every session is a significant investment in professional equipment, software, insurance, education, backups, maintenance, and technology that continues to increase in cost year after year.

Seeing prices climb this dramatically can be discouraging, but it’s also a reminder of the commitment required to deliver reliable, professional-quality images and to protect your memories every step of the way.

The next time you hire a professional photographer, you’re not just investing in photos; you’re investing in the experience, expertise, and equipment that make those images possible.

Behind every session is so much more than the click of a camera. 🤍

Countless hours go into dreaming up ideas, building sets by hand, rearranging the studio, testing lighting, and making sure every little detail is just right before anyone steps through the door.

Owning a small business means wearing a lot of hats, but creating a space where memories can be made is one of my favourite parts of the job. Every backdrop, prop, and setup is built with love and purpose.
