It’s been such an incredible few weeks. It feels really amazing to birth and to get the opportunity to talk to on ♥️ was the icing on top of so much swirling magic! ✨

For awhile now I have been feeling this deep desire to work with/ collaborate with/ dream with / photograph artists/creatives and that’s why being a part of this new collective with .art & is so exciting ✨

Our first project together is facilitating leading ‘The Artists Way’. Perhaps you are thinking that you are not artistic or you aren’t creative but I promise you, you are. Sometimes we don’t realize it but creativity is in everything: cooking/baking, gardening, woodworking, organizing household items, decorating, problem-solving, creating reels, taking photos, playing with your kids, and the list goes on and on. You don’t have to be a full time artist to join us —in fact I would argue it’s imperative for people who have 9-5 jobs or feel they may be lacking some creative spark in their life to dive in this winter with us and see what happens. 🙌🏼 You’ll surprise yourself SO much. 💓

This face is my why for everything I do. 💓
With the launch of this week I kept thinking how fun it would be to tell Molly someday about how I joined forces with her cool aunties on a business venture that felt so good for my soul.

I also can’t wait to tell her about how she is the reason I felt brave enough to tackle doing my Masters in Counselling Psychology starting in January to become a Therapist.

I will tell her that with these exciting things happening in my life I also simultaneously felt deep sadness as some of the closet people in my life did not offer support but instead offered comments on how it ‘must be nice to have so many “hobbies”’ or comments like ‘you were spinning your wheels the last few years doing nothing—why didn’t you go back to school years ago?’

I will explain to her that there will always be people that will try to steal your joy but the true test of character is to not give them that power. To hold onto her joy, creativity, imagination, quirks, dreams, wonder and sense of self worth. ✨

3 AM is when I got up to drive and meet at ‘the end of the earth’ we called it -otherwise known as Meatcove, Cape Breton.

It was the most incredible session—watching Chanelle paint in the rugged, freezing sunrise ocean wind was truly inspiring. She mixed elements of the flora around us into the painting and at the end let the ocean waves roll onto the canvas. 🌊

Part 2: Jackson told me he was thinking he wanted the EP cover art to be in black and white which was music to my ears because if you haven’t noticed I have a deep passion for black and white photos.

Jackson was literally meant to be photographed in black and white. He has a James Dean look about him and he doesn’t just write in lyrics and poems, he answers a simple question in poems too. I asked him during our session what his sister was like and he answered without hesitation, ‘well Steph she listens with her heart first and foremost—that’s the kind of person she is’ I just smiled and thought what a gift he is.

His EP ‘Time Worth Wasting’ is out tomorrow and it’s just the beginning for Jackson. ♥️

Part 1: This session for Jackson spanned over three hours. We had ideas swirling around our minds but that’s the beautiful thing about a session —there is always magic that you never plan for ✨ like stopping on the side of the road and the horses that came up to Jackson or arriving at the lake to see it’s like glass or finding a barn with light streaming in all the right places.

It’s the unplanned stuff that I love. It’s the conversations and connection and time spent creating and philosophizing. It’s as real and as soul baring as it gets. It’s vulnerability personified.

It’s my favorite fu***ng thing to do—snapping, listening, witnessing. Repeat.

One of my favorite things to do as a photographer is to help capture senior wishes for 💓

In August, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Veronica and Sidney Crosby together and her genuine enthusiasm for meeting him and getting to watch him practice was so sweet! She wanted to sit and watch his every move during practice and my favourite moment was when she remarked how handsome Nathan MacKinnon was in front of Sid! 😂 Veronica has led a life which is a Masterclass in the ‘Art of Resilience’ ( read more about her story ) and to see her wish come true at the young age of 93 was truly inspiring. 💫

I’m so grateful for these two extraordinary people right here. ‘Her Beautiful Brain’ would not be happening without these two. There was a few weeks in the fall when I felt like I didn’t have a home for the play because I didn’t know where would end up being and I didn’t want to give up my dream of putting on the play. Then Kristen told me that her Art Gallery could be the home of the play. She has welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like as an Artist I can do this. Mike offered to do the sound and visual cues for the play which blew my mind.

That’s what these two do. They lift artists up, they help tell their stories and they ultimately build community like no two people I have ever witnessed before.

A few friends recently have asked me what is my elevator pitch for ‘Her Beautiful Brain’ and it’s hard to put into words because it is a memoir play about my life but it’s also about the human experience. define the human and artist experience in so many ways —connection, resilience, kindness, creativity, love, storytelling and the list goes on.

I am so fortunate to have them as special friends and so grateful to be a part of the ‘Togetherland’ community.

The most special friend.
We took a walk down the River early September and this photo was from that early morning session. I have known her for many, many years and getting to live down the road from her this year was so beautiful.
She has helped me understand myself more and she has encouraged me and inspired me as an Artist.
Molly has been going to bed every night since the Spring requesting ‘Rose’ songs.

Her new album is stunning. It’s the kind of album that you sit and listen to and feel like you’ve been sitting with a friend that understands you inside out. It’s going to touch and move people on a soul level and we should all feel so lucky that this brilliant woman is giving us all such a gift. 💫

✨’Her Beautiful Brain' is a one woman memoir play written and performed by Steph McNamara. It's a play that is meant to enlighten and educate the audience on the daily joys and struggles of a special needs family. 'Her Beautiful Brain' is funny, heart warming and raw.

The playwright is overjoyed that .art will be hosting 'Her Beautiful Brain' at her Art Gallery: 'Togetherland'. Kristen will also be hosting a Q&A after the play.

'Her Beautiful Brain' is meant to be a night where the audience is a part of a community meant to feel the full 'spectrum' of human emotions.
