These waters may look very tropical with their radiant blue colour, but in fact this is the remnants from the abandoned asbestos mine in Baie Verte, NL. The Baie Verte asbestos deposit was discovered in 1955, and Advocate Mines, a division of the giant Johns-Manville Company, began open-pit mining there in 1963. The Advocate mine shut down in 1981. It did reopen in 1982 under the name Baie Verte Mines LTD but again shut down in 1990.

Sunrise over Seal Cove, WB. Newfoundland has many of these beautiful little towns tucked in its 9,656km(6000mi) of rugged coastline. Each one being unique to its self.

A bird's eye view of the real-estate this seal has gotten himself, quite the spot. This is the berg between Seal Cove and Wild Cove in the Whitbay. It's been here for at least a month that I know of. Its rolled and changed up quite a bit since I first seen it but still hanging on in the same place. Unfortunately this can only be seen by boat, maybe soon with the increase in temperature it will start to move into sight from land.

Well here's something I for one don't see very often, this seal just soaking up the sun on an iceberg all to himself. What an evening he had. There was also a couple more hanging around the area and a small humpback whale. This was taken May 30th, 2024, between Seal Cove and Wild Cove in the Whitebay.
